Drop the pan,wipe it out,change filter--your done

The bands do not need adjusting

The trans will be shot, before the bands
wear enough to need adjusting

I have a 1999 Ram that does the same thing. according to my research try re-adjusting the transmission bands. Depending what gear the truck ramps in rpms depends on what band needs adjusted.....the first 2 gears can be adjusted outside the transmission but the third gear is internal....also new transmission fluid and filter is recommended....is this doesnt solve the problem could be a solenoid....or governer pressure but that should throw a engine code is there is improper pressure. It could be a few different problems but the trans will likely need rebuilt. There is one solution that you can do with the trans in the truck. It might be that the reverse band is out of adjustment. You have to remove the bottom pan to adjust the reverse band. There is a test to see if its the reverse band. First do all the other gears work? Next drive it in Manual 1st. Does it have engine braking when you let off. If no, its the band.

Those paper disc are from you 2nd gear band. You will need to replace the band. The front band is the 2nd gear band. The first thing I would try is to adjust the band. If there is still some material left on the band adjusting it will get you by for a while. The adjustment for the 2nd gear band is on the outside of the case. the tv cable may need ajust--bands also--trans is part electronic-governor area--do a scan of truck and pick up a repair book @store or library--dont forgit ur the gears r old with mucho miles

just drop the transmission pan to drain it and the filter is right there in the valve body,DON'T mess the band adjustment,they are only to stop the planetary gears so you can go into reverse,there is no such thing as adjusting bands! that went out with the fifties!

Try changing the automatic transmission fluid and the transmission filter. There are also bands on the transmission that can be adjusted. You will need to buy the service manual at your local auto parts store to get the exact specifications for adjusting the bands.

You need to flush and change your tanny fluid and this should help with the late shifting.
Note, these cars kindda have bad rep for tranny failure unless you drive soft and not vigorously, like my brother who went through 3 rebuilt tanny before he learned his lesson.

I would change all soleniods
If the trnasmission is whining noise hot or cold when trying to shift. The 1st band drum or clutch hs damage . The transmission should be service by a professional.

have the bands adjusted and hurry if you dont the bands will break. theres an adjustment on the outside of the tranny and one on the inside the pan. just adjusting them youll see a world of differance.
