Re: ink cartiage wont work

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. tried all the print solutions. Some of these units are not compatible with all OS. After do the obvious clean nosel stuff several times you may want to remove cart. and clean contacts with a clean pencil eraser, warm water and then dry completely. It didn't work for me but..... Alternative is to by a Cannon.

Can't print

Weather you use color or not the system is tied togeather to use them both. A laser printer however would have been the best choice for you if you did not want color. However weather you use color or not the printhead in this unit is daisy chained thus the printer will not start without the color cartridge due to print head damage that can be caused by a dry print head.

If both cartridges are empty its because you have used color at one point.

Replaced the black ink cartridge and it comes up no printer cartridge.

As suggested a couple of minutes ago, with a fresh cartridge installed, disconnect power (unplug) and let the unit rest for an hour or so and then reconnect it.
This may clear an internal error register.

Changing ink cartiage

ab-e - open the lid, the cart will move to the center, use your index finger on the top of the cart. push down and out. Here's the instructions from Lexmark's site.

Hope that fixed ya...

Guest: The lid switch must be bad, you can manually slide the cart assembly with your fingers if need be.

I had the same problem too. Brand new unit and 5100 error comes on after power up. There is nothing jaming the ink cartiage, and it only moves a little bit to the left then jams back to the right. I can't even load in new ink cartiages. It's going back to the shop today.
