Hi -
My network was working just fine until my modem died. Then I purchased a Motorola 2210-02-1002.... the Modem has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 and the router has a IP address of 192.168.1.254.... is this a matter of changing one of the addresses to match?
Thanks,
Leslie

- Still don't understand from your reply what to do.

My network with the linksys 192.168.1.1 worked fine until my modem died. I purchased the at&t motorola 2210-02-1002 modem. I installed as directed and got my internet back up and working. I cannot get my internet connected to my network. there seems to be a disconnect with the new modem and the linksys device. I am wondering if I can just change one of the IP addresses.... or do you have a different solution?
Thanks,
Leslie

- Hi -
My network works fine, but my modem died. I purchased a motorola 2210, installed it and got my internet working again. The trouble is when I reconnect it to the linksys device, the linksys device is not recognizing the modem. So several devices that are linked to the router no longer work. The modem has an IP address of 192.168.1.254 and the router has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 Do I change the IP addresses to match or is there another solution to getting the two modem and the router to talk to each other?

How do you reset the router? I believe I already listed that the router model number is BEFSR41 Ver 3. Also, how do I configure it? How do I find the manual?

Sep 22, 2009

- How?
The router is BEFSR41 Ver 3

Sep 22, 2009

- okay.... next problem... how do I reconfigure the router? The manual says to be connected to the internet, but that's just the problem.... the router isn't speaking to the internet.... what now?

Sep 23, 2009

- How do I change any setting in the router if I cant' connect it to the internet. By the way... I already had the router... as I have said in earlier posts, the modem died and I had to replace it to get back on the internet... but the internet wont' work through the router. Therefore, I am connecting my computer directly to the internet. I wouldn't care so much except my Voip phone won't work without the router, so I need to figure out how to change settings on my router without getting on the internet... any suggestions?

Sep 23, 2009

- I'm getting pretty frustrated here... I have gotten answers that don't address the issue... and I've had to restate the issue at least three times... I'll state it one last time and if it is not answered then I'm done with your service (unsatisfactorily).

I have a network with the Linksys router BEFSR41 Ver 3... my modem died... I HAD to get the one that my service provided which was the Motorola 2210. I have reset my entire system twice... please don't ask me to do that again. The issue as I understand it is that the Linksys has a IPS address of 192.168.1.1 and the modem has an IPS address of 192.168.1.254. I also understand all I have to do is to reconfigure the router's IP address to match the modem. Unfortunately the way the manufacturer says to do this is through the internet.... ARRRRRRG If the router was talking to the internet I wouldn't be asking for help. How do I reconfigure the router if it isn't speaking to the modem? Can I hook it up directly? Should I try to find a neighbor who has an older modem so I can reconfigure? What other suggestions does your service offer? Is there a way to reconfigure the modem instead? If I do that and it doesn't work... how do I get back onto the internet?

The motorola should have an ip address from your DSL provider that is not an internal network address (192.168.whatever). The Linksys router should be your gateway, and have an ip address of 192.168.1.1 - and distribute addresses to computers that are connected to it through DHCP. The ip address for your DSL modem needs to be obtained from your provider. If you have highspeed internet, such as cable, then it's plug and play - meaning if you plug the cable into the modem, then the modem into the linksys, and use default settings on both, you'll get what's known as a "dynamic ip" address from your cable provider...but i'm assuming you have DSL, since when i looked up that Motorola modem, it said it was a DSL modem.

It is strange that your modem has an ip address of 192.168.1.1. The modem should get the ip address from your isp, so it should be a public ip address. So something is clearly not right.

Have you considered resetting the router to factory defaults (Hold in the reset button on the back for about 15 seconds). The router should go to 192.168.0.1 after the reset and you can login and see the status.

Please let me know how this works for you.

Hi,

First and foremost, make sure that this Router is compatible with the system. I have seen many cases, when user purchased the router and it was never compatible.

Check the requirements on the back of the box which you might have or go to their website to check it's requirements.

Now,

As you said you have already Reset the router which is quite simple.

The configuration settings in your router must be changed as the configuration is different for different modems. In the WAN settings page for the router change the configuration to the following:

Obtain an IP Address Automatically - DHCP enabled (this should already be configured so just confirm it).
Enable PPPoE
USERNAME: Your Username.
PASSWORD: Your Password.

Let me know once done!!

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

- Thanks for your response!!

Go back to the owner's manual that came with your router and look for something like this:- http://192.54.2.1,http://184.21.3.1 etc. These set of numbers will take you to your router's website, where you can configure everything about your router. Just open up your browser, type in the address and configure your router settings. Also you can try disconnecting your modem and router, wait for 5 mins or more and then reconnect the modem first, wait' til its finish syncing then connect the router. These simple steps can also help with ip address conflicts.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Reset the Router and configure the Router again. Resetting the Router will restore the Router to its Factory Settings.

You may refer the User Guide of the Router for the instruction to Reset and to configure the Router.

If the issue persists then please provide the model # of the Router so that we can find more information about this.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
