Question about Onkyo HTR500 Receiver

1 Answer

Plugging in with multiple voltage requirements.

Hello, I have an american Onkyo Receiver model # HT-R500, and I live in Germany, so my question is this: If I plug my receiver into a 220v plug-in (which the receiver is rated for) then plug my subwoofer into the rear of the receiver. Will the receiver put out 120v to the subwoofer (which it requires) or will it push out 220v?

Re: Plugging in with multiple voltage requirements.

No... it will put out 220volts, same as the wll socket voltage. you will need a 220v to 110v stepdown transformer to run the sub.

If that is true the power transformer is probably open at the primary, the secondary voltages feed the receiver and power various parts. I suggest getting it checked, my worry is the power transformer may not be available from the parts manufacture.

I dont know how to connect it to my tv!?!?!?!

Look in the manual.

The only vital connection is a simple composite cable or whatever your unidentified TV requires. The TV has a manual, too, somewhere.

I personally would not bother routing any video from external sources through the receiver as no signal will benefit from the extra cables and connections.

Onkyo ht-r500 no speakers attached goes directly into protect mode, standby light blinking..

I have a HT-R520 - First thing stated in the manual is 'Do Not Apply Power to the System Until All the Speakers Are Connected to the Receiver.' This practice avoids any hot connects to the speakers. As with any high-outpiut system connecting spreaker wires to the system while in operation can spike the speakers as well as the amplifier curcuits. Hook up your speakers first and give it a try. Good Luck!
