All those contacts are cleaned?
New battery, not old and charged, right?

I cant seem to get the manual focus to work on my vx2000

Are you sliding the switch from "Auto" to "Man" first? The focus switch is located at about the mid-point of the camera, just forward of the flip out LCD. The focus ring is the larger of the two lens rings, the one farthest towards the front of the camera. The smaller ring behind that one is the zoom ring. Also, make sure something isn't inadvertently pressing down the "Push Auto" button immediately below the focus switch - that can force the camera to autofocus even if in "Man" (manual) focus mode. Hope that helps!

I am one of the lead technicians at We are a repair shop1.gif that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders.

The problem that you are experiencing is a common complaint on the Canon Gl2 camcorder. There are two different common parts that can cause zoom problems. The second problem is a bad flex PCB and this repair parts and labor is 306. Both of these repairs include cleaning and servicing. The return shipping is free. We also grantee the entire camcorder for 6 months parts and labor.

Zoom control not working

Sounds like the zoom control needs cleaning I run two of these and they have both gone within a week of each other, it seems to be a common fault. Will need to send them to a repairer as they are fiddly to do.

Lens failing to function properly

Yes, this is a strange issue. Have you dropped the unit, or maybe 'bumped' it or anything similar. I know alot of times, people like to 'hit' their unit, to get it to do things (like eject tape). What people don't realize, is that these machines are prone to damage when hit hard enough (just like anything else).

In any event, this is not an misconfiguration issue, and you won't be able to fix it. You would need to bring it in to a qualified service center for an estimate. Be sure to shop around to find the best price and service. Since parts for these are not cheap, and they are labor intensive.

Good luck.

Hope this helps some.

Lens failing to function properly

Possibility is two. 1. If the lens contact to the body is not good so make sure the contacts are clean and position is locked completely. 2. 90% of the solution comes from repair on Main circuit in the lens. Good Luck. For further assistance go to James.

Zoom problem

Ive seen this three times and everytime its been something differant. Fist was the rocker switch was jammed. easy fix as dirt was in there. Second was a small serface maounted capacitor in the zoom interface circuit. An third never found the problem as we thought it was a limit switch in the lens itself but the customer never paid for a new lens assy so we didnt order it. Good luck

Can I manually control the zoom and focus?

Yes. Zoom can be controlled either by a variable speed rocker control, or a zoom ring on the lens. Focus is either automatic or manual via a focus ring.
