For a mac, you need to use the grey disk that came with your computer that says Disk one on it. Put it in your computer and turn the computer off. Hold down the N key and turn your computer on. It should ask you to select your language. Select it, then an installer window will come up. Ignore it. Go to the menubar at the top and select Utilities> Password Utility. Select your User account, type in a new password, and click change. you can then restart your computer and log in with your new password.

I left my mac g5 open overnight i forgot that i did not shot it down i just remembered the next day that it was still open but when i used my computer the monitor is blinking and i cant do anything now

By pressing and holding down the power key for about ten seconds on the front of the G5 you can perform a hard shutdown although you will have lost any changes on any open documents. Once the machine has shutdown you can then restart per normal. Hope this helps.

The desktop files on my mac G5 won't open when I double click. My son was recently using it and I don't know if he reset or changed settings that would cause this.

One of 2 things...

One, the app used to open the files is missing or not found.
Two, the extension was removed from the file.

Try holding the Option Key while dragging the file on top the application's icon. This will force it to open.

I know it's a bit late to say - but when you buy from ebay always make sure you get the installations disks that came with the Mac.
You'll have to buy yourself an installation disk (if you are in the UK you can get them cheeper than from Apple at CEX.co.uk) they are standard OS installation disks (Ie. they don't include the iLife set but they do incude Safari & Mail and the other basic bits and bobs). You can get the Snow Leopard disk very cheaply from them or from Amazon.
It's much easier with the disk than the other way without.

System will boot to the white screen with apple logo then freeze on the blue screen. boots into login on safe mode, entered password for the only profile than gets stuck with spinning pinwheel.

Hi,

I am Sorry to Hear this Problem. This is a Common issue on G5 Mac Desktops. You could Google ' G5 Freezes ' and you would see many People facing the same Problem.

This is more often a Bad Faulty Logic Board. There we Certain Recalls for the same. You need to Contact Apple to check whether your Machine would be Covered under Warranty or not.

If you have the Installation Disc, You could try to Reinstall OS first. If you can't boot a CD, it would more likely Confirm Faulty Logic Board.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Not many things you can do with a situation like that, you are probly looking at formating the hard drive and reinstalling everything. OR Make life easier ask your friend to come over enter his user name and password and then disable them. :)

G5 Mac with a GeForce FX 5200

This is only a calibration issue. Your monitor is fine. and the card is fine. I would go to your displays preference and go to calabrate your monitor again. This time just choose the calabration from the default one. Ask someone else if they can see the box you just put on there. Sometimes it helps to have a second set of eyes.
