I had this problem until I discovered that the tape had broke. Putting in a new tape solved the problem.

Good Day! How will i connect and manage my camera to computer.

For the DCR PC101E you need to use a firewire cable or 1394 cable or the i-Link cable which goes to your computer this is one and the same thing with different names. However if your computer does not have a connection for this you must go and buy a 1394 pci card that you have to connect inside your computer. These usually come with the software drivers for the 1394 card.

I have a sony handycam dcr-hc19e. I am trying to transfer to my laptop which only has a usb connector and i have updated software still wont work - any ideas?

If you computer has Windows Vista or Windows 7 installed, then streaming over USB is not supported on those operating systems.
It is only supported on Windows XP.
At any rate, the quality of the video when streamed over USB is of considerably lower quality when compared to the video when transferred of IEEE 1394 connection.
If you don't have Windows XP, you'll have to find a computer with an IEEE 1394 connector and buy a Sony DV to IEEE 1394 cable. The DV port on the camera is right next to the USB port. Consult your local Sony retailer to find the proper cable for your camera.

Computer does'nt reconize Sony handycam HDR-HC1E

You need video editing software in order to capture video. You can download free software or trial software on the internet. If your using windows you may check to see if your PC has moviemaker on it. Not my favorite, but if your new to this, then it will work.

All PC's these day's have firewire inputs, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have the video drivers and software to communicate with your camera. Most Camera's don't come with video editing software.

I recommend SOny's Movie Studio for $129. It's worth the money and fairly easy to use.

Can not find USB in the menu setting

Try you "firewire" cable. If you do not have a IEEE 1394 port on you computer add one on the PCI bus, or you will have to get some unit to convert the analog output(A/V cable-port) of the camera to digital via the USB. [Turtle Beach-Dazzle- etc] Unless your camera's OEM editing/ingest program is made to connect through USB, the camera will ship only stills via USB. The audio and video transport via "firewire"/ IEEE 1394 ports. Edit with what ever you want, but I suggest "Scenalyzer" to ingest to you computer from your camera.

Unfortunately, it's not exactly a trivial process. The basic steps are as follows:

1) connect the camcorder to the computer
2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer
3) optionally, edit the video file
4) upload the file from the computer to

1) the camcorder has 4-pin 1394 (also called firewire or i-link) jack, and the computer (if equipped) either has 6-pin 1394 jack or 4-pin 1394 jack (on some notebooks). if your computer doesn't have a 1394 jack, you need to buy a 1394 adapter (eg.

2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer hard drive using editing software or a software utility designed for doing just that. this software may come with the camcorder or the 1394 adapter.

3) optionally, use editing software to take an excerpt from the file, rearrange parts of the video, add titles, etc., and output a new file

4) upload the file to there are some guides on their website as well (eg.

I hope that helps.

Won't transfer to computer

Please be sure the 1394 function is enabled in the user menu. Depending on the serial number run, your camera may not have this menu function. We have many of these models coming in with this problem because the DV (1394) communication is lost due to damage to the DV process IC. This often occurs from incorrect insertion of the 1394 cable in the rear of a computer, the connector itself is easily inserted backwards and is now compromised causing B+ to ride in on the data lines of the cable which instantly damages the process IC.
If the camera communicates with any other 1394 device, the IC is not damaged.

Good luck my friend,

Joe Weibel
