How long have you tried to print color? If it hasn't been very long ago, then check your printer settings and make sure the "print in grayscale" option is not checked. If it has been a while since printing in color, your ink could have dried out. That happens. If so, you will need to replace the cartridge.

Hi,The most common reason for missing or incorrect colors is a print cartridge with one of the following problems:
One or more of the ink colors is empty. The black ink and all three colors of ink in the tri-color cartridge must be available or colors will be incorrect or missing. Under normal usage, the print cartridge will run low on one color of ink shortly before all ink colors are emptied.
The protective tape is not removed from a new cartridge.
Contacts on the cartridge are not making proper contact with the print carriage.
I see you don't have much knowledge about printers. It always helps to know something about your printer.
It seem you have a color printer. Usually a color printer has two cartridges. Black cartridge and color cartridge. The color cartridge usually contains three colors; cyan, yellow and magenta.
If the black cartridge is empty, you won't see black text in the printed paper. Print a small photo and see. If it has all the colors, but looks dull (without proper black color), that means only the black cartridge is empty. If it is greenish, the magenta ink is missing. Generally orange colored printouts suggest cyan is missing. Likewise, purple color means the yellow ink is missing.
If you installed the printer properly using the CD from the printer manufacturer, you will be notified when the cartridge is empty or close to run out of ink. But if Windows automatically installed your printer, then the system won't give such information.
From the information you have supplied, I believe your blck cartridge is empty or missing.
Oh, I almost forgot to say, some manufactures sell some printers (for example some Canon Pixma models) with only the color cartridge.
Switch on the printer and open the printer cover. The cartridges will move to the middle. You can check whether the black cartridge is missing.

Hi, I would like to inform you that there is no way to print with black cartridge alone. You need to install two cartridges to wok the printer. So I recommend you to install color cartridge and change the settings to print in black only.
It means that the printer has detected a problem with the color cartridge. If it holds multicolors one could be empty & the cartridge must be replaced in order for it to work. Best advice would be to try a new cartridge and see if the error message goes away. Hope this helps.
More of a workaround than a real solution--when the error message comes up, press and hold the stop/reset button. After a few seconds, the message will go away and you can continue printing without changing the cartridge.
Either you are out of magenta ink or your
cartridge is dirty. Just because you've run a cleaning job doesn't mean
the printer will fix the problem. The best thing to do is take your
cartridge out and use a paper towel to gently clean the head (where the ink
comes out). Once you wipe away the gunk you should still get the three
colors on each pass of the paper towel over the head. If you only get two
colors (yellow and cyan) then your magenta is empty or dried out (happens with
ink cartridges used past their expiration date). The only thing you can
do then is get a new in cartridge.
