This is usually a failure of the vertical IC and its accompanying circuit components. Look for a small flat IC attached to a heatsink. It should be marked LA7837 or something similar. Check the solder connections first. Try resoldering them. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC (cost about $20 or so). Also check the capacitors in the same circuit. If these are bad, the picture will look stretched or squished a bit.
The Optical Engine is the problem. I would call 1800-222-SONY and see if they would help you with the cost because it is a expensive repair and also to find a Authorized Service facility to do the work.
I hope this helps,

If the stain is irregular and static that is a faulty LCD display. The repair is expensive. Contact Polaroid at the number listed on owners manual as the TV has one year factory warranty cover.
It's not the lamp. It maybe dirt or dust or even a bug. The picture that is projected starts out 1/2 inch by 1 inch in size. Somewhere along the path to the screen a piece of dust gets in and after it's projected it looks like a blob on the screen. The closer it is to the DLP chip itself the bigger it looks. If this is the case you should have a professional service it. The Light engine needs to be removed and cleaned. If you lightly push on the screen does the blob move slightly ? If it does it's not on the screen it's in the optics or the mirror. You may also have a bug or smug on the main mirror that causes the same thing. This will appear about 2 times the normal size of the object. If your up to removing the screen Take a look closely at the mirror on the back of the set. You can clean this with windex it's glass. If you do take the screen off hold it up to the light. Sometimes spiders make webs and leave marks. Good Luck
All color printers have a calibration mode.Essentially it makes sure that everything starts and stops at the same time.It should be accessible on the contol panel
This is a problem with the vertical circuit. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this. With teh unit unplugged, open up the back and locate the vetical IC. This should be a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering hte pins. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. I will look up your specific model and try to get more details.
If you suddenly noticed it, this is most likely caused by a large piece of dust on the lens. It is hard to clean, you would need to take the whole TV apart in order to get to the lens (mounted on the optical block).
It could also be caused by a failure of the optical block, which had inherent issues. There is a pending class action law suit against Sony for problems with optical block that include smudges, hazes, and tints that appear after a certain number of hours.
Other causes could be a dirty portion of the mirror or a smudge on the inside part of the screen but these are rare because dust and contaminants do not usually accumulate on these parts of the TV.
