Question about Washing Machines

Whirlpool Washing machine

Hi there, my washing machine started making really loud noises the other day when a load of pants were in it. I took the pants out and let the cycle finish without clothes. The next time I washed, the same thing happened. At first I thought a leg of one of the pants had gotten caught, but I just ran the washer void of clothes and the same loud noise happened. This time the aggitator doesn't move at all. My model is the whirlpool ultimate care II, it's about 8 years old, and the info on the inside of the lid says: LSQ8243HQ0. Is there a part that is worn or old that I can replace? and if so, what suggestions do you have for me should I take on the task. I'm a 35-year-old woman, with a background in finance...but I LOVE To tinker so I'm interested in fixing the washer (verses buying a new one)... thanks for any help you can give.

Hi TCarnes, thanks for the NOT so good news, I was hoping you would say a new drive coupling part would do the job !? It's the loud noise that has you thinking the transmission, right ? I'm not feeling the Christmas joy ; )

i have the same model washer and i'm having the same problem except for the loud noise. The aggitator doesn't spin unless i push it to the side just a little, then it spins just fine. The bottom of the aggitator spins all the time, its just the top portion, the part that pulls the clothes downward, that doesn't spin unless its pushed to the side. No loud noise though, sounds like it always has.

My whirlpool duet washer hammers very loud when it spins. The outside of the machine doesn't seem to vibrate much but it is very loud.

That is a common occurrence with dryers such as this one. Even though it sounds bad, it is harmless. If it really bothers, you can re-balance the load and it should reduce the vibration.

Kenmore Elite Oasis HT makes loud noises during spin cycle.

The tub may be unbalanced and wobbling. This may be due to washing heavy items such as rugs, towels, etc. If it is noisy with regular laundry loads, the mechanism that supports the tub may be loose or broken.

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

I have a Whirlpool Duet. It is about 8 years old and used heavily (family of 8). It started making a really loud noise during the spin cycle. There is also some type of material peeling/crumbling off down...

Hi,
The load noise is most likely the main bearing. What does the peeling crumbling material look like? It may just be soap scum/mildew or something. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
