LP 640 projector not able to display 1080p

Hello, I hope you can help me with a problem that I have been having with an Infocus LP640 projector. I have been trying to get it to work at 1080p resolution with a Playstation3 and a HP dv 9600 laptop that has a HDMI connector. I am using a standard HDMI gold plated 3 ft cable and an M1 to HDMI adapter shown in the attached picture. Everything works fine at 1080i but as soon as I try 1080p the projector will show a signal out of range message. If I hit some of the remote?s buttons the image will appear but distorted, out of scale, and bad quality, also I am not able to make any adjustments to the projector since the menus are not available for changes in the projector?s setup display. When I bought this projector the specifications in my manual show that it is 1080p capable but if you go to the Infocus website now it shows it is only 1080i compatible. It also says that this projector is not HDCP compatible. I have remote router to laptop and an desktop I have the laptop to VGS and the desktop to DVI inputs, only get a signal through VGS input. Why will the DVI not work?

Hello, The LP640 will NOT down-convert 1080p
1080i is the max it can down-convert.

As far as the DIGI input, it is not DVI... It's a proprietary
InFocus format they call M1-D P&D and is NOT HDCP compatible. I have several LP640 manuals, some quite old and none of them claim that 1080p is a valid resolution. interesting that your manual says it is... very odd indeed.

Good Luck!

Cheers

I have an Infocus 640 that I'm thinking of repairing. It won't power on correctly. If I hook up a regular power cord to the back and bend it slightly and press the power button, the unit will power on...

firstly why not just resolder the main connector on the pcb of the 640 unit. then check if your problems will be solved.

Otherwise look at the part number of both power supplies and see if they are the same.

In Focus LP 640 won't even turn on? Any help

There are several reasons this could happen, and can usually be identified by glancing at the Power LED. The following applies to this particular projector:

1) Blinking RED led- Lamp or fan failure. Usually this is a bulb issue and simply needs the lamp replaced and the lamp life hours reset. Below you will find an image from the owners manual that will allow you to translate the # of times the LED blinks into a problem/solutionrobertsager.png
2) Solid Red LED means unidentifiable error. You will need to contact customer support at that point to schedule service.

Why is my image red tinted on my LP 640 Infocus projector?

could be a bad cable which is the cheapest to try. wiggle the wire at the back of the plug while viewing the picture and see if it changes at all. if it does, the cable is bad. if not, then you probably have a bad lcd cable/connection or a burnt polarizer.

Infocus lp640 is broken. no lights. nothing.

Hello, If there is absolutely no sign of life at all just like it would look if it were unplugged...
The problem is a diode on the switching power supply at the rear of the projector. It's easy to fix if you know where it is. PS There is a 99.999% probability that the Diode is the problem and not a fuse..

Infocus LP540 --- display

Hello,
It sounds like you may be feeding it with an HDMI source using an HDMI to M1-D adapter...

If this is the case, make sure the source in not set to a resolution higher than 720p.
However I really need more information to offer a definitive solution.

Take Care!

The specs of the LP640 show that the maximum resolution it can handle is 720p. You are trying to make the projector do something it cannot handle

PowerPoint and Projector (InFocus LP640) Incompatability

I am unsure of this from your post, but don't try to hook the projector up to the laptop while either one of them is on. Power both the laptop and the projector off, hook up the projector to the laptop, then power on the projector first then the laptop. If you are already doing this, I apologize for stating the obvious.
