Question about Sony CDP-CX300 CD Player

A PC generated CD

I burned a couple of songs onto a CD-RW and tried to play them. The CX300 won't play them. Could you possibly tell me what is wrong.

Re: A PC generated CD

This vintage player won't play many burned discs because of its original design. Not a problem with its design, just the nature of this beast....accordianman

I took out all discs. When I tell it to play a disc the table moves back and forth slowly about an inch. After a couple trys "Table Error" shows up. Both belts are old but on.

Tray will prolly need retimed after the belts slipped off the pulleys.
Procedure is with tray brackets removed lift tray in back then push open button to let the cam gear spin around to open position. Then let tray down and try to close it with button. Reinstall brackets and may take a few attempts to get that gear in the right position!

You could try to clean the laser, with a special cleaning disk. Don't try to clean a laser by opening the player, you will damage the system.
If it is a CD burned in a PC, it also can be the laser is now a bit less, not capable reading CD-R or CD-RW, and still can read normal CD's

Can copy from analog sources, but can't copy from digital source, eventhough the signal is monitored. The display says "can't copy".

The unit requires Digital Audio CD-R or CD-RW media for
recording. Computer CD-R or CD-RW discs do not work with
this unit.

Serial Copy Management System
This unit is in compliance with the Serial Copy Management
System standard. This standard has been established to
restrict digital-to-digital copying to only the first generation.
The basic rules governing this system are as follows:
Rule 1
A digital recording is possible from a digital source such as a
CD, DAT or MD onto a recordable CD-R, CD-RW, MD or DAT
through a digital input connection. However, further digital
to- digital recording is prohibited for the second and later
Rule 2
When an analog source such as an analog disc or FM
broadcast is digitally recorded by using a CD-R, CD-RW, MD
or DAT, this recorded source can be digitally recorded on
another CD-R, CD-RW, MD or DAT. However, further digital
copying is prohibited.

My answer here only concerns if you're trying to play burned audio CDs. Burn your audio CDs at the lowest speed (1). Try the JVC/Taiyo Yuden brand.

I burned a CD on my PC to keep in my car and it plays OK in the car and on my PC, but does not play on my Technics SL-PD687 5 disc cd player. It's recorded in *.cda format and it's on a CD-RW. Any...

The problem with old CD Players are that they sometimes are a little fidgety when it comes to reading CDRs.

You could try burning a new CD on the lowest possible setting, say 2x or 4x.

Also try changing the CDR brand as some cheap CDRs are prone to not reading in old CD Drives.

Try using a regular CD-R (CD recordable - record only once) instead of a CD-RW (CD rewritable - rewrite multiple times). CD-RW use a different "ink" to write the data to the disc and can be re-recorded/erased a couple of times before it loses its ability to write effectively to it.

Hello,if the spindle table is bent "this is the platter on the motor that the disc sits on" it will have problems reading the outside of the disc, which is where the later songs are.Check to see if there is extensive disc wobble during playback, sometimes you can slightly bend the table to near straight, other times you need to replace the motor.
