what keeps popping up? Can you get to your Start Menu, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore? If you can, put a System DVD (Restore) in the drive and hold the F12 key down on boot. Boot from DVD and again get to System Tools and System Restore to back your system up.

If you are getting a disk read error, you will need to use a program like spinrite to fix it or you will need to replace the hard drive.
This is one error you don't want to see. It means your hard drive is failing.
You will not be able to do a system restore as long as you get this error.
