Question about HP OfficeJet Pro K5400dn Photo Printer

1 Answer

Bad printout Printer runs well and then black printout starts fading out like it is running out of ink. Changing the print head and changing the ink cartridge does not help. Cleaning the print heads does not help. Aligning does not help. I purchased one of these printers in October and one this week. Both have the same problem. HP mentioned a "MAC" software problem, but I am using a Compaq PC.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP250, and it's printing black and faded lines alternatively. (one line black, one line faded black...), sometimes involve blue too.. Anyone can help?

First, are you running low on those ink colors? If not, possibly print cartridges need cleaning. If printer has separate print heads, they made need cleaning.
Lastly, print head(s) may need replacement.

First, checkthat the USB cable is secure in both the printer and the computer and that theprinter is sitting on a flat surface. The printer may not work if it is tilted.

Next, run a printer check to make sure the printer is operational. To run aprinter check, turn off the printer and the computer and unplug the USB cable.Turn on the printer and press the Maintenance button. Use the down arrow buttonon the printer to highlight More Options on the display screen and press OK.Highlight Nozzle Check and press OK twice. If a page prints out, reinstall theR300 software on your computer.
Lines inPrintout
R300 mayproduce printouts with light horizontal lines that are not a part of theprintout. This is called banding and can have several causes. First, trycleaning the printer head to clear any clogged nozzles. To clean the printerhead on the R300, press the down arrow button to highlight More Options andpress OK. Use the arrow buttons to highlight Head Cleaning and press OK twice. The printer will take about 30 seconds to clean the print head, after which youshould run a printer check as described above. If the printout has gaps, pressthe STOP button to run the print head cleaning feature again. Once there are nogaps in the printout, press OK.

If the printout still has banding, open the Print window on your computer andclick on Properties. In the Properties window you can choose the print quality, speed and printer type. Select a higher print quality and a lower speed andmake sure the paper type matches the type you are using for the printout.

Finally, check that the ink cartridges are not empty or close to empty andreplace them as needed.
Faint Printout
If your printout looksfaint or faded when using the R300, try cleaning the print head. Next, replaceany ink cartridges that are old, low on ink or out of ink. Check that the papersetting on the computer matches the type of paper you are using for theprintout.

Another potential cause of faded printouts is incorrectly loaded paper. Sometypes of paper have a printable side that is whiter or shinier on one sidecompared to the other. The printable side of the paper needs to be loaded intothe printer face up.

Photo black ink runs out b4 black on HP Photosmart C6380 printer

The black ink cartridge is larger than the photo black cartridge and black is used in photos to make the darker colors. Black text takes much less ink per page.

It prints, but not visible, i change ink on all of them and is the same only in black, all other its fine on my MFC-420cn.

You have a dirty ir clogged print head. You can sometimes get it to work again by running a lot of cleaning cycles. 10-30 cycles is sometimes how many it can take. Unfortunately sometimes that won;t work so you have to hit it with a bigger hammer in this case you can clean the print head using q-tips or lint free paper towel and vinegar. The vinegar dissolves dried ink. If this works (it usually does the trick) the printer can work as well as the first day you got it.

Remove the ink cartridges. Then to clean it you need to wet the swab or the towel and gently rub the print head where it touches the paper. You will see a little ink then a lot then it will fade out as you get the head clean. Generally after it starts fading out that means you have most of the dried ink cleaned off. Replace the ink carts and then run a cleaning cycle and you should have your printer working again.

If none of these work then it may be too badly clogged and you should just consider getting a new printer as the print head is worth about what a new printer will cost.

Faded text every few lines- Canon printer

When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head.
Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.

Problem with printing in black writing not clear and very faded.

It sounds like you need to run a printhead cleaning. The print head is what you put the ink cartridges into, it's responsible for placing ink directly to the page. If the some of the nozzles are clogged up, it can give you bad print quality. Without knowing the exact model of your printer, I can't tell you exactly where to find the menus needed to run the cleaning. Sometimes you can do this via the "maintenance" tab in the printers properties. If you need any further assistance, feel free to let me know.

Red and blue lines across printouts

open printing preferences and click on maintenance. Run the print head alignment utility. Sometimes this will remove the horizontal banding. I had this same problem and had to uninstall the printer and reinstall just like it was new, running the alignment feature before it was corrected. Worked ok for a few days then started again. I assumed that the printhead is bad. To costly to repair and bought a new printer.

My black ink will not print. If I change the colour, it prints find. It is a new cartridge.

First you need to ensure that this is not a driver problem, by reinstalling drivers and testing the printer on a different computer.

Also ensure that ink cartridges are OK, try replacement inks.

If the problem is not a software problem, and the printer is recognised by computer, and the printout is coming as a blank or faded page, then you usually have a faulty or clogged printhead.

Try first performing print head cleaning procedure from printer tools, that may not fix the problem, but do the cleaning a couple of times, just in case.

If the print head is clogged, that can be fixed soaking the print head in isopropyl alcohol overnight.

If still no luck, then the printhead must be replaced, here is the part: Canon MULTI-PASS F-80 Print Head $61.00
