Whirlpool washer makes loud noise but aggitator doesn't even turn

Hi there, my washing machine started making really loud noises the other day when a load of pants were in it. I took the pants out and let the cycle finish without clothes. The next time I washed, the same thing happened. At first I thought a leg of one of the pants had gotten caught, but I just ran the washer void of clothes and the same loud noise happened. This time the aggitator doesn't move at all. My model is the whirlpool ultimate care II, it's about 8 years old, and the info on the inside of the lid says: LSQ8243HQ0. Is there a part that is worn or old that I can replace? and if so, what suggestions do you have for me should I take on the task. I'm a 35 year old woman, with a back ground in finance...but I LOVE To tinker so I'm interested in fixing the washer (verses buying a new one)... thanks for any help you can give.

Hi. Recently had the same problem on the same washer. Turns out that the "agitator dogs" had gone up. The set of four was only about $6.00 to replace. Just ask an appliance dealer. Hope this helps!

A load of Jeans or pants is hardest on washing machines , you probably broke the belt for the aggitator

Samsung front load washer, jerks and makes noise when it first starts spinningthen it smooths out, and works fine.

on many machines that is normal, the shaking continues until the load is distributed relative evenly around the spinning drum. It is also possible it is the main bearing but I am not sure. The noise I am talking about would have been there since new. These links may help. Washer has noise during spin cycle Whirlpool Maytag Sears GHW9100LW1 Washer is Making Loud Noise

Loud noise when aggitating code says motor not rotating properly

It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Loud noise, then not so loud, but now electrical burning smell and little draining

the smell is your clutch and the lack of draining is a clogged washer drain protector. see these at drain protector is part 541811 and clutch is 2670. go there enter model number and scroll down to the red 100 click it and look for these part numbers.
