Water on freezer door not working - GE Profile 21.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX22PRBWW

  • Anonymous Sep 21, 2009

I will try this. GE tells me there is no filter on my model. Also, months later the ice cubes stopped forming. I am going to check out that valve. Thanks!

I replaced the valve which fixed the water problem.

However, it did not fix the icemaker problem.
There are bubbles in the water line to the freezer, so I wonder if that signifies there is no electricity telling the water to go to the icemaker.

I tried pouring water into the icemaker molds and the water froze but I had to manually force the ice out of the molds.

    Thanks

HI, i would advise to check the lines to see if they are frozen over, if the lines are not frozen over, this could also be a filter issue. Most water filters that have reached there operating limit, will not continue to allow the flow of water to pass through, replace the filter if it is needed. If you do not suspect any filter issues, and the unit dose not have a filter, i would move on to the water valve assembly.

The water inlet valve is located behind your refrigerator. Find the water supply line coming into the valve and turn it off at the source (typically under the sink). Disconnect the supply line. Remove the screws that secure the inlet valve in place.
The water inlet valve is connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the water inlet valve before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the terminals with slip on connectors
Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.
Inspect the filter screen where the supply line connects. Remove any debris or deposits that may have built up using a toothbrush or warm running water. If you cannot clear the clog, it will be necessary to replace the valve (the filter is not removable on most inlet valves).

Test the water inlet valve for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X100 (if available, otherwise use the nearest ohm setting). Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading of 200 to 500 ohms. Close inspection of the inlet valve and especially the coil may reveal the exact ohm resistance rating to test for. If the water inlet valve does not pass this test, it should be replaced.

Will not dispence water

My water dispensor INSIDE the door froze up.
I payed a repair guy $75 to use MY BLOWDRYER to "thaw" the frozen water line INSIDE the freezer door (below the water dispenser).

He said anytime the frozen food extends over the freezer shelf and touches the freezer door for a long enough period of time, the water line inside the door FREEZES!!

PREVENTION: "Keep some airspace between the door and frozen food."

Everything works but no water

Try turning down the freezer a little.

You can 'thaw' the water line in the door by hanging some towels in the freezer with the door open. Should thaw in a couple hours. At least this way you don't need to empty the freezer.

Water dispensor quit working

the water line that runs from the bottom of the freezer door up to the water dispenser is probably frozen. I have run across this problem several times. you can take the line out of the freezer door, thaw it out and re-insert it, but chances are it will happen again. usually when you have that issue, there is a problem with the insulation in the freezer door and you will need to have the whole freezer door replaced. No water thru door

I would try putting on the light at the dispenser. It worked for me but took almost 24 hours to work. I am now keeping the light on all the time. Simple solution to try. My ice was working when the water was not coming out.
