Soyo SY-P4VDA Motherboard Problem

I have a Soyo SY P4vda motherboard in a computer I no longer use and want to donate. When I turn it on, the CPU fan and the fan on the video card both run. I can hear the hard drive attempt to kick in. The CD Rom light blinks off and on. However, that's as far as things get. It will not boot.

I put a bootable CD in the drive but that will not fire up either. I have removed the memory and put it back in; same with the video card. I also cleared the CMOS by placing the jumper on pins 1&2 and then back to pins 2&3 after at least 30 seconds. I removed the battery and stuck it back in after 30 seconds.

My thoughts are the problem is either the Bios, maybe the HD. If it was the HD, I would think the CD Rom would fire up a CD.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Best thing to do is disconnect floppy, take all other board/pc card out of the computer remove cdrom, now you just have a hard drive
turn it on see where it goes. if it doesnt work try a different hard drive or just the cdrom but make sure you have boot from cdrom on in your bios.

I need all the drivers and updates for my mobo sy-p4vda

You aren't going to find updates as there haven't been any. Soyo no longer makes motherboards, and they don't even have a website now where you can go looking for drivers.

A Google search for "soyo sy-p4vda drivers" turns up many sources, all driver sites but not connected with Soyo. The trouble with these sites is you don't know for sure whether the drivers you find are correct or the latest the manufacturer offered. But sometimes it's the only way to find what you need.

Good luck with the search, and thanks for using Fixya!

What type of memory do i use with this motherboard

You can mix the memory but there is a down side to this. If you install PC1600 & PC2100 the motherboard will lower the speed of the PC2100 to match the slower PC1600 memory. The SY-P4VDA MB uses, DDR266 PC2100, 184p DIMM, 2.5volt memory up to 3Gb. If you wish to buy memory for your board you can click on the link provided for an idea of prices for PC2100 DDR266;

DDR200 PC1600, 184p DIMM, 2.5v, Sync, CL=2

SOYO SY-7VBA133U cannot adjust CPU speed

Flashing the bios is the best idea to start with. This will upgrade to the newest bios, which normally adds more features and fixes some bugs.

There is a small chance that this motherboard just doesn't support overclocking, but the majority of them do.

Below is the link to soyo's site and downloads for your model number. There was 4 or 5 bios updates. I would get the newest one.

Hope this helps

Sy-7vem soyo cpu upgrade

Most of the new boards will automatically detect the cpu speed. If possible set the bios to auto detect. Otherwise go to Soyo website and check the manual
