Bad AV Multiout on a Japanese PS3

Hi,

The Video Output from AV Multiout port of my Japanese PS3 has gone bad.

The HDMI output works fine. I have tested the same on a HDTV.

Could you please let me know how can I get the faulty AV Multiout port repaired?

Is there a way I can use the HDMI output from PS3 and connect it to VGA port of my CRT TV?

Thanks,
Swapnesh

Same problem as mentioned above. Never had to use it before; use HDMI at home. Tried two different cables on two different HD TVs. Problem is the stupid AV Multi Out connection doesn't work!!!

I have a 60g playstation 3 and the hdmi cable works. But when I plug it in to a regular tv the av cables do not work. When i first got it the av cables worked but now they do not so i just stick with hdmi cables. Is there something in the settings i have to adjust or is this a common problem

same as above, mine is definitely not the cable itself because i bought a new one and still no results. this seems to be a common problem, is there anything i can do to fix it.

European PS3 HDMI stopped working and AV video is very messed up

Try holding down the power button down for about 10 seconds (until you hear another beep) when powering on. reset video output and just set it up again. this is a diagnostic screen that most people dont know about

No hdmi output

hmm.. it could be ur tv.. or u playstation, its most likely its ur tv because it plays on AV, open the back up and take the memory catrage out then put back in. (this does not break any waranty u have on it because ps3 incourages u to open it up and get a higher gb mem pack)

Connecting to surround sound system

Hi to connect your ps3 to your tv all you would need is a hdmi to hdmi connector which would mean the sound would come straight out of your tv. The sound comes directly out of the hdmi cable. If you want to connect the ps3 to an external reciver you might want to get an AV reciver with HDMI inputs. This would connect to your tv and you can switch channels to different sources connected into the receiver, also they come with very good seperate speakers so you wouldnt have to use you telly speakers and you can connect your directv box into it aswell.

Alternatively you can connect the audio phono outputs from your AV multiout connector on your ps3 (the cable should be provided) to a seperate sound system with phono AUX inputs, these are found on most soundsystems but check with whoever your buying it from. But this means that you cant use the HDMI output of your PS3 for video just the AV multiout video signal (which is a bit rubbish, so I suggest the latter solution.

Hope this solves your problem
Rob

PS3 no longer communicating with TV

All: Try this -

P
erform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.
  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the [HDMI OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor). [If resetting does not auto-detect your HDTV, see next step below.]
NOTE: As of system software update version 1.60, the PLAYSTATION 3can automatically detect an HDMI connection to a TV. If the PLAYSTATION 3 is turned on with an HDMI cable connected, the screen for switching video output settings will be displayed automatically. (Does not function unless the TV that is connected by the HDMI cable is turned on.)

As of version 1.80 of the system update for the PLAYSTATION 3, the PLAYSTATION 3 can upscale the video content of PlayStation® format software, PlayStation®2 format software, and DVDs to HD resolution.

If Resetting the Video Output Setting Did NOT Detect Your HDTV Automatically (Certain TV's Only)
With certain televisions, the PLAYSTATION 3 may not automatically detect the HDMI source (TV) which it is plugged into, even after resetting the Video Output Setting (as described above).

If resetting the Video Output Setting did not work, you may need to follow these steps to manually locate the HDMI source:

1. Connect both the AV Cable and the HDMI cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 to the corresponding (AV and HDMI) ports on your TV. 2. Proceed with resetting the Video Output Setting on the PLAYSTATION 3 again. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 3 below.)
3. Turn the TV channel to the corresponding "Input" or "Video" channel for the AV Cable connection.
4. Manually change the Video Output Settings to HDMI. (Follow these steps, then continue to step 5 below.)
5. Now switch the "Input" or "Video" channel on the TV for the HDMI port the PLAYSTATION 3 is currently plugged into.
6. Accept the display settings for HDMI before the timer runs out (30 seconds). Highlight "Yes" and press the X button.
7. You can now disconnect AV Cable from the PLAYSTATION 3 and the TV, as it is no longer needed.

Hdmi

I can't be exactly sure without more information, but it sounds like you ps3 is outputting from another port. My ps3 originally was outputting from the component/composite cable port so in order to use the hdmi output I had to do a soft reset. That makes the ps3 sense what cable is plugged into it and automatically output through that port instead of using whatever is the saved setting.

With your ps3 turned on hold down the power button for a few second until it beeps and flashes 3 times (should be about 5 seconds). You might have to try it a few times to get it to work, but you should get picture and be able to adjust the settings on the ps3.
