Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Only Inputs 1 through 4 work

Ant A & B, DTV, and Components 1 & 2 work sometimes and other times they flicker and yet other times they register nothing at all. Inputs 1 through 4 work absolutely fine and we are ok with the picture quality they provide. Repairman said the fix is $600-700, no surprise there. My question is this: Should I be concerned that Inputs 1 - 4 will soon start acting up as well? We have money set aside to either buy an elliptical or a new TV and I'd hate to buy the elliptical just to have the inputs on our current TV go bad in a couple of months. We have no desire to go back to a smaller (cheaper) television.

I just bought a 55 Inch Rear Projection HD Mitsubishi TV. 2002 model year. It appeared to work fine yesterday at the guys house before I bought it then I brought it home and I have a flickering going on....

It's not a banged-out connection, something is wrong with the analog inputs (and only them, the rest of the tv is ok) - probably caused by a faulty capacitor either in the corresponding power line or the signal path itself, normal problem for a tv of that age. You will gonna have to open it and see where the problem is.

Trying to get the tv that was given to me to register all inputs instead of just ant a and b

In set up they normally do not include avi's and aux inputs into the channel memory.

TV screen goes blank but power stays on

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

Picture Flickers

there is a surface mount 9v regulator location # IC2925 i think. part # BA09FP that part is mostly likely the problem. it is located on the board right behind the video inputs. on the bottom right corner(looking at from back)

No Picture from Component Input #1 or #2 but do have audio via Surrond Sound

Simplest thing would be that your component cables are not HU'd correctly. Having them reversed would do this.

Screen blacks out

Check your set for coolant leakage. It is very prevalent on Mits HDreadys.

If your 4 layer Signal board - beneath the blue gun - has coolant on it, you'll have problems finding a replacement. If it's the boards under the other 2 guns, they can always be repaired as they are single layer.

A drip shed should be installed to keep the coolant off your boards.

"ant A" and "ant B" inputs go black when the tv is first turned on.

Try opening that "Ant A, B" device and apply some fresh solder to all the components inside. Also you can try to by-pass that device using the connector below. One end connects the cable in and the other end connects to the circuitry inside the TV.
