Question about Sony KDF42E2000 42" HDTV

Sony KDF-E42A10 cycling on and off

My 1-yr plus old lcd projection tv just suddenly started cycling off and on. The screen goes blank (green led remains on), then the power indicator LED flashes for 39 times for 39 seconds before the display comes back on. The cycle repeats 40-45 seconds later. The lamp cooling fan is running all the while this happens.

I've read someone post a similar problem (same tv) on another forum and they said it was the "block circuit board" and that it cost them some $1,000. Is there a cheaper alternative to this? If I could do the parts replacement myself I'd rather avoid the labor costs.

The display is still bright, if that matters. I will go ahead and replace the lamp. Thanks for the reply.

BTW, what should I do with the "accept" button? I don't want to close the subject before I actually get the tv working.

Thanks for your replies, sir. Your diagnostic flow chart is particularly very helpful.

No, there is no OSD when the screen blanks out. I actually checked the lamp through the air vents and it is off, hence, there should be no OSD. As per your flowchart, it could very well be the optical block. I haven't opened the back yet, but I will definitely get back to you with what I find out.

BTW, my TV is the KDF-E42A10. We bought it used from a friend, but they had it for like 2 weeks only, hence, pretty much brand new for us. Sad thing is she didn't get an extended warranty.

    Thanks again.

what is correct model kdfe42a10 or kdf42e2000 ?

  • crispin melchor Dec 15, 2007

if lamp is still lite while this happens .Then lamp is prob good.I would remove back of set and check all connectors on boards and harneses .the metal box with fan is your (B) block .check all connectors going to it..If all good then follow this flowchart ..check if you get OSD OR GRAPHICS . if not then you have bad optical block .If it has OSD then check if it affects all inputs then (B) block is bad .If it only affects tuner then (B)block is still bad.If it does not affect TUNER but only video 1 thru 6 then you have (AGU) board bad.If it does not affect video 1-6 but video 7 onlyDVI .tHEN YOU HAVE (P) board bad.

    optical block part# a1123071a

    (B)board part #a1129348a

    AGU board part#1129346a

    P board part#a1129345a

I suspect (B)board bad ..this is common on sony KDF42A10

yes when it acts up ..see if the lamp is on ,,if video is gone but you can actually see the backlight or lamp on but with no OSD..Then first check all harnesses and conn ..then procede with chart..hope this helped you...

Sony KDF-E42A10 rear projection TV. Won't turn on.

Start by changing the lamp. If you got 5 years out of the old one, count your blessings, most folks only get three. The lamp is designed to be replaced by the consumer. Ebay will carry a replacement for you or you can get it directly from They've got good prices. The lamp door is on the back. Its really easy, give it a shot.

Green line running vertically along the edge of picture

If its a LCD projection TV (such as Sony Wega, Hitachi, Epson, Philips, and some Panasonic, some Mitsubishi), and the green image is in the whole screen or just one part as a blob or a line. Is most probably that one of your LCD Color Filters is damaged (burned out or starting to get busted), I don’t know if you can just replace the color filter, I believe you need to change the whole light engine system or the optical block. There are some places around, I found some on ebay but you should definitely try on discountdashmerchantdotcom their price range $260.00 - $330.00
