I have the same problem, it started as a small red spot and grew to cover the whole TV. If the movie your watching is a dark picture, you can't see anything. I researched it a while ago and learned it was an optical lense that cost as much as buying a new TV

You have a defecitive light engine and Hitachi is aware of the problem. Here is what you need to do...we just went through this with our Hitachi 60v500. You need to call Hitachi's Customer Relations Department (not customer service) at 800-654-7013. Tell them what the TV is doing and that you have a bad light engine. At first, they will act like don't know what you're talking about but they will give you the names of some Hitachi certified dealers in your area. Once you call the dealer and have a tech come out, call Hitachi back at the number I listed above and tell them that the tech has confirmed that you have a bad light engine. All of a sudden they will acknowlege the problem...imagine that. Hitachi will then call the dealer directly to confirm that it's the light engine and will send the part to the dealer and HITACHI WILL COVER THE PART!

Now here's the kicker. Hitachi will pay for the part (cost around $1500) but you will have to pay the install. Our install was $400. That was worth is to us because we've loved this TV and it was $3600 when we bought it 3 years ago. Please don't let any dealer tell you that you will have to pay for this part...only the install. Hitachi is covering the part regardless if you're still under warranty. If you're under warranty, they may even cover the cost of the install. Our warranty was expired but again, not to sound like a broken record, Hitachi paid for the part, we paid the install ONLY!

Please deal only with Hitachi customer RELATIONS department and not the regular customer service. The # I listed above is to customer relations. Good Luck!

My Hitachi tv no longer has any green contract when I try to change the hue as a result my tv has a large centre area that seems to have a redish hue and no matter how I try I don't get any real color...

This problem is very common with rear projection TV's.

It is related to one or more of the colour guns being out of alignment or needing to be replaced. The only way to correct this issue is to have a technician come in and fix it or bring it into a repair center. I personally would suggest purchasing a new TV. The cost of getting them aligned is usually more then a basic LCD.

Hope this helps

My Hitachi 50V500A has a large area where the color is turning out to red. Is this a lamp or a complete light engine replacement job?

not the lamp. hitachi knowingly had a defect with the fan not allowing enough air to cool the lamp which has burned the red color lense resulting in the red on your screen. enjoy your new brick thanks to hitachi!

Hello, My projector has approx 400 hours of run time. It will not project any hues of red. Any suggestions?

Does it show red hues without any devices connected to it? If the colors are fine without an input device, the problem is your cabling or a connection. To check these, do the following:
1) Disconnect all your cables and observe the ends to make sure they are undamaged. If they look good, reconnect them.
2) Flex the cabling, moving a few inches at a time, starting at one end and moving slowly to the other while watching the projected image. If you see any change, you have found a damaged cable and need to replace it. If nothing is found, then try step 3.
3) Replace your cables with any spares you might have. If this does not fix the problem then go to step 4.
4) Go into your projector menu and find your color settings. Try adjusting these to see if you get the red hues.

If none of the above provided a helpful solution, The problem is usually the internal color panel. The last time I had one of those repaired it cost about $2000. If you are not very experienced repairing electronics or electronic components, you should not attempt this.

My Hitachi 60VG825 projection TV is 3 years old. For the past several months the screen has been turning blue around the outer edges & this past week a large yellowish green spot the size of a...

Sounds like Calibration is needed on the projection internals. Your TV uses a rear-projection system and the problem is either in the imaging LCD Unit or the light filter. I see in a previous thread you have changed the bulb. You can invest in a voltage regulator to keep the hardware in factory condition.
Also you can burn a DVD of a stuck pixel remedy video and run it on the screen with full brightness and full contrast. This is used for plasma burns and stuck pixels on conventional Flat panel TVs but can repair color issues with projection systems. This therapy is focused on the imaging unit between the projector and the main drop of your tv.
please feel free to post a more in-depth description or any changes

Red circle and yellow tint in our white

If you have RED color that starts from Center of the Screen,(no red color on sides ) 100 % your light engine is deffective..
In order to solve this issue Replace Light Engine Control Board (also called Driver Board ) attached to light engine.

Good Luck

Blue half moon shadow on top of screen

We had this same problem with our 60+ inch Hitachi. Except our tv had a red hue in the center of the tv before we replaced the bulb and then the blue hue joined the red one after the replacement. It ended up that our light engine was defective (which is an extremely common problem in Hitachi tvs). You should read through some of the forums on here to see if you can find your solution exactly (that is how I figured out my problem was our light engine). You might have the light engine problem also, but I am not sure since you don't have a red hue. Hitachi pays for the replacement light engine part (worth $1200). I just finished the process and now my tv is like new. If you want me to go more in-depth with the light engine repair process let me know.
