Hampton Bay 24750 Huntington III Ceiling Fan

Hampton Bay 326-946

I cannot find my model Hampton Bay Raleigh 111 model 326-946.
I went to change the light bulb, heard a buzzing sound as if it shorted out. The light no longer works, However the fan does. When I pull the change on the fan. a second time the lights come on for about 30 seconds and go out again.I called home depot, they really didn't want to bother with this problem and said it was my wiring. If this was true why does the fan still work? If I call a electrician he will charge me more than the light cost. I had a certified electrician install it the first time.
What should I do? Is this possibly a defective problem or do I need an electrician
I have the same problem.

Chances are the wire nut came off the connection for the light unit. If you're handy, shut off the fan mechanism at the fan (pull chain until fan is off), then turn off the power at the breaker box, ensure the power is off at the light switch and proceed to unscrew the fixture from the mounting unit (attached to the ceiling).

Carefully support the fan unit with one hand ( there should be a silver grounding wire that will help support the unit - unless it wasn't installed properly in which case the unit will be heavy - try to balance on the ladder if it's tall enough). Look for the white and black wires - one will be for the fan unit, one for the light unit.

Check to see both are securely attached by wire nuts. If one is loose or has come apart, carefully re-twist the wires tight (turn to the right as this is the way the wire nut twists on so it will stay together when you replace the wire nut. If when you replace the wire nut the wires are still loose, replace the wire nut - they do get old and tired.

At this point I would turn on the power at the breaker box and turn on the switch for the fan on the wall. Then try the light unit - see if that fixed the problem. If it has, turn off power again, replace the unit the same way you took it down - if not, there is a problem in the internal wiring . . . check with warranty depot.

Hope this helps,

Lauri
