Wiring 2 subwoofers to a mono amp?

I was just given a Rockford Fosgate 250m mono amp and two 10" Kenwood 300w subs in a bandpass box. I know the 2 subs where wired to the same amp but I dont know how to wire it. Any help is great.

Thanks

The subs can be wired "parralel" or in a "series". it depends on the ohm rating of the speakers and the amp. Most amps can only go down to 2ohms (mono) so it depending on the ohm ratings of the speakers when wired in a series vs parralel that will decide how to wire them. you can always take the safe route and just wire the positives of each to positive on the amp and the negatives to the negatives on the speaker terminals. Do you have the speakers model numbers?

I have a rockford fosgate 550 that the fuse blows

Short inside one of the transistors. This requires very good soldring skills and electrical know-how, and some thermal paste to go between the heat-sink and the transistor. Unfortunatly this is not a cheap repair, probably cost around 100 dollars.

Cheers,

Kevin

Rockford fostgate p500-2 amp overheating pls help!

Your Amplifier:
125W x 2 @ 4-Ohms RMS
250W x 2 @ 2-Ohms RMS
500W x 1 @ 4-Ohms bridged RMS

Your Subwoofers = Dual 4 ohm
Possible wiring configurations of (2) Dual 4 ohm voicecoil subwoofers are:

2 ohm Stereo
1 ohm mono
4 ohm mono

That amplifier is not 1 ohm mono stable.

You need to put a 4 ohm load on the "bridged" terminals of the amplifier

Your best wiring configuration is going to be Series-parallel.

Repeat for channel 2.
This will be a 2 ohm stereo load.
You should only use this method if the subwoofers are in seperate enclosures... not one big cavity.

Sub Wiring

Hello jtkpay,

Rockford-Fosgate claims their latest V-power 1500bd is stable to 1 ohm, and I would think that your Oldschool would also be. The 2 wiring options for 3 subs with 2 ohm dvc would give you a 1.34 ohm load and a 3 ohm load. The 1.34 ohm option would mean more watts to the subs, but the amp will run hotter. The diagrams look like this:

c9227fe.gif
Using just 2 of the Kickers, you can wire 3 different ways, with final impedances of 0.5 ohms, 2 ohms, or 8 ohms. You do not want the 0.5 ohm load. It's bad for the amp. You don't want the 8 ohm load. It doesn't allow the amp to produce as much power. So that leaves only the 2 ohm, with coils in series and subs in parallel. It looks like this:

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate as "FixYa".

I was given a kenwood kac742, what do i have to do to hook up 2 subs to it tom

You need:
1) 2 4-ohm subs
2) Appropriate enclosure
3) Amp wiring kit with RCA's

Connect each sub to a separate channel and set both mode switches to "MONO" (center position). In 2-channel mode, this amp is only rated at 80 Watts RMS, so you need relatively small and efficient subs. I'd say nothing bigger than 8" or perhaps 10". Rockford-Fosgate P1S48 (8") and R1S410 (10") will work OK with 50-150 watts RMS. Some others will also.
