Re: Firewall ?? I cant get Limewire back....

Find the IP address of the modem, it should be on a label on the bottom of the modem or in the owners manual that came with the modem. Then open internet explorer, in the address window, type > http:// then enter the IP address next to the // then press the enter key, you will see the home page of the modem, logon to the modem at this screen and make the change to the firewall to allow Limewire. I have a bsnl type 2 modem with wireless connection i want to block certain sites like orkut facebook in my laptop which has a redhat linux os.please help me

i don think there will be url filtering options on ur modem/router.
u can download sunbelt firewall to ur pc(Linux Platform)
using this u can block the url's u wish.

If u need to block the websites on the whole for total network, then u need to place a firewall appliance on the edge of the network after your modem/router

Cant connect to any online game servers

Check your router (usually connected between your cable or DSL modem and your PC) and also your software firewall(s). Windows has its own built in firewall, and both Windows and Macintosh have security software's that may have come with your computer, or you might have purchased them afterwards that could also contain a firewall.

Open port on router for peer to peer downloading

The port you need to open depends on the specific application you're using.

Go to the website of the application you're using and search their support area for port settings or firewall configuration settings.

Some applications have a user forum where you can find the answer as to what ports are required to be open.

Here's an example of the ports that would need to be open for Limewire: (this does not mean these are the ports that need to be open in your case)

In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 65000 (or try any ports in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok. If you have port forwarding set up for a modem/router, you'll need to change the port forwarded to match LW's new listening port. If you have a specific port number allowed thru a software firewall, make sure that you allow LW's new port number.

Firewall and limewire

Dear ckclee,
Just uninstall your new limewire and restart your computer. try to re-install the old version of your "work-fine-Limewire". If it doesn't work, the only way is go to start menu, browse the accessories, carefully choose "SYSTEM RESTORE". when it runnng.. pick the date which your computer work best, the restart it, remember... windows can only restore and set back time status not more than a week, according to my experience.
Good Luck

Slow internet connection

Sometimes ISPs (Internet Service Providers) upgrade information on their end to improve or alter something about their network. When this happens, routers have outdated information from the modem. You might want to try power cycling the modem and router. To do this, unplug the power from both the router and modem. After about 15-30 seconds, plug the modem back in. Wait for all of the lights to come on excluding the "PC Activity" light if it exists. Once the modem is registered with your ISP, plug your router back in and test your net speed using a site such as:

If your service is back to normal, then you're all set. If it isn't, you may want to contact your ISP as there could be something wrong with the route traffic is taking from the node to your residence.

Disabling firewall?

by default, you can get to the surfboard configuration page by username: admin / password: motorola
username and password are case sensitive.

if you dont know the password better get it from your roommate to avoid resetting the modem back to factory defaults. if there's no other way to retreive it you can reset it by pressing the reset button on the back of it for 5-10sec.

after resetting, according to the manual, the modem might need 5min to 30min to sync again with your ISP.

2700HGV-B rebooting

Is this device a modem and router in one, or a router only that connects through a separate modem?

If it's a combo device, then a firmware update will probably fix your issue. Your ISP should be able to fix this. Hiding the device on the floor under a drawer could actually cause this because, like any computer, a router needs air flow to cool it off. Routers can overheat and freeze up leading to some weird symptoms.

If you have two devices (router and modem) then make sure it's not the modem acting up.

Netgear fr114p constant activity problem

Have you looked at the traffic logging information from your FR114P? You might want to visit and download a copy of Link Logger for your firewall and see what your firewall says is hitting it. Do You have UPNP enabled in the router ?
