IMPORTANT: To function properly, your Walkman® player must be recognized by your computer as a Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) device. If the portable player was connected to the computer before the Windows Media® Player version 10 or later was installed, it will be recognized as a Mass Storage Class (MSC) device and not function properly. In that case, a different procedure is available to correct this issue. For some models, when you use the portable player for the first time, if you have not used it for a long time, or the battery is depleted, it may take up to 5 minutes for it to be recognized or start charging. On models with a display, the display will remain blank. If it the portable player is not recognized or does not begin to charge after waiting 5 minutes, reset the player by pressing the reset button.

If the issue persists, please Click Start and then click Control Panel . In the Control Panel window, click Performance and Maintenance . In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System . In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab. On the Hardware tab, under Device Manager , click the Device Manager button. In the Device Manager window, click the plus (+) sign in front of Disk drives . Click to select the Sony USB device . From the menu, click Action and then click Uninstall . In the Confirm Device Removal box, click OK . Disconnect the portable player from the computer. In the System Settings Change box, click Yes .

After that, restart the computer and reconnect the player

I lost my install disc where can i download the software for my computer?

You don't need the small cd that came with the Sansa Clip.

http://www.sandisk.com/

Go to the website, clik on support

Clik on Sansa Clip

If you installed the updater when you first got it.. the updater will be located in your program folders Sandisk/Updater.

The little CD was for installing the Rhapsody download software if I remember right.

You can update the firmware on your clip either by using the updater or doing manually.. all the instructions are on the support site.

Good luck!

How can you tell if it is a version 1 or 2?

Sansa e200 series has 3 not interchangeable versions of firmware:
  • version 1: e200, firmware starts with v1.xx.xxx
  • version 2: e200v2, firmware starts with v3.xx.xxx
  • version rhapsody: e200r, firmware starts with v1.xx.xxx
Site for the difference between these versions:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/193

The exact type should be on the back of the player: model e280R.
For the rhapsody there is only 1 firmware available.
The zip file can be downloaded here:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/rhapsody-1.0.2.165.zip

When another firmware is needed, go to the download firmware wizard on next page and select your model:

How do I format my sansa e250? Rhapsody won't let

You might be able to fix your player by reloading the firmware. You'll need to first determine which model of player you have. You should use the appropriate firmware download and instructions sticky thread at the top of the board to do a manual update rather than using the autoupdater, which will not overwrite your existing (and possibly corrupt) firmware if it is already the latest version. Make a note of your firmware version before and after so you can confirm that the update was successful.

Sansa e250R firmware

hey yeah i had the same problem with my sansa e250r. when mine does that i
1. turn it off
2. put the hold button on
3. hold down the rec. button
4. turn it back on
that will get you into recovery mode connect your data cable once you have hooked it up to your computer open my computer and you should see a 16mb drive there instead of your normal mp3.
once you see that open it up.
now go to http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1449 scroll down and click on download firmware link
once you have downloaded that file unzip it and copy the file that is inside to the 16mb drive that you opened up in my computer.

once you have done all the above,,
1. take the hold button off
2. disconnect the data cable
3. wait for it to reboot.
if the above dosent work you might wanna take it to the dealer.
hopefully this works for you as well as it did me. good luck

Computer won't read mp3 player

First, reset.
If that fails, then try to download the Sansa Connect Recovery Tool from:
http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1532
If that still fails, upgrade the firmware from the Sansa website
If that fails, uninstall the software from the installation CD and reinstall it from the Sansa website.
