Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Hitachi TV problem

I have a 50 inch Hitachi LCD (50V500) and it's about 3.5 years old. Recently as you watch tv for awhile the blue light will flash like you are shutting it off and the tv shuts off on its own only to turn back on in a few seconds on its own. This occcurs off and on every few minutes and has been increasing in frequency. Please assist me as I would hate to have to take it to repair shop and possibly pay alot of money to get it fixed.

The blue light blinks like it is shutting off and I lose picture for a few seconds then it goes back on. I don't think I'm losing total power as the screen never has a chance to turn dark before it kicks back on.

Got 50VX500 and having problem with more red color on screen. Does anyone know what the problem is? If I order the light bulb and replace it, would it take care of the problem? The TV is about 3 years old.

    Thanks for any help.

I too have the same problem. Blue blob on left top of screen and a light blue circle in the middle of the screen. My TV is only 2.11 years old. How disappointing. I called the number suggested, and as mentioned, they acted like they had never heard of that problem. I was given the name and number of a local dealer. I will get a diagnosis from them and definitely call Hitachi back. Wish me luck!!

My 50vx500 also turns off on it's own completely. The blue light blinks for about 15-30 seconds and then it comes back on. It happens randomly and often. I've had my light engine replaced already on Hitachi's dime. Could this be a lamp? Thanks.

My 50in HD Hitachi is dark and after replacing the bulb, shows color better but the regular picture is gray/grey and every pixel line is visible. If anyone has any ideas about what can be done to correct it, it is much appreciated!

i turn on the 50v500a and the light light up like power on but then it chirps and powers off and either goes to a temp light or just does nothing at all and i have to unplug it for hours to get it on but it always comes back on ...... so what do u think

The televison shuts off on its own, and turns back on on its own. This seems to be independent of the time the telvison has been on. Once the tv is shut off, the remote does not work, and the buttons on the televison itself do not function, either.

You have a defective light engine and Hitachi knows about it. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department (not regular customer service) at 800-654-7013 and tell them what your set is doing and that it's a bad light engine. They will at first act like they are unaware of this problem but they know about it. They will give you the names of some certified dealer in your area. Once the tech comes out and confirms the probelm, call Hitachi back at the number listed above and they will call the dealer to confirm the problem. Once they confirm that it's a bad light engine, Hitachi will send the part to the dealer and HITACHI will cover the part (around $1500).

Here's the kicker, if you're not still under warranty, most of us are not, they will ask you to pay the install. Our install was $400...worth it to us on a $3600 tv we've only had 3 years and have loved. YOU DO NOT have to be under warranty for Hitachi to cover this expense part. Another issue out there floating around, DO NOT let any dealer or department store tell you that you will have to pay for this part once Hitachi sends it to them. They are getting the part from Hitachi for free and if the dealer/department store trys this, I would report them to Hitachi and the BBB. Please deal only with the Hitachi customer relations department. Customer service will not get you anywhere. Our situation with Hitachi went very well. Good Luck:)

Hitachi Rear Projection LCD TV Lamp

Depends on whether you use the TV as your "daily driver" or not. Colour patches on the edges of the screen sounds a bit like a purity problem. If replacing the lamp every year is proving too expensive, not to mention a tad repetitive since it indicates the short life of the lamp(s), plus the set happens to be a few years old, perhaps consider a new TV of approximately the same screen size (50" and up) - if the latter is what you want to do.
