PS3 startup fails

Where are you seeing the black screen?
If it is during game startup, then the game file could be corrupted:
Move selection to the game title that is causing the black screen and pres the triangle button for options, select "delete".

Then do a database rebuild (This also erases any messages, but will not lose game data or account info) -
Eject any disk that may be in your PS3, and power off.
Press and hold the power button on the console, until it cycles on and then shuts itself off.
Press and hold again until the console beeps once, and then rapidly beeps again two times.
A maintenence menu screen should appear, from that, select "rebuild database".
When it is finished, it should automaticly restart.
Then go to Playstation Store and re-download.
Reinstall and run to get it to update the game again and it should work fine.

If you mean that you only get a black screen when you turn on your PS3, then it could be set to the wrong video output. To get it to automaticly detect your video, use the procedure to get to the maintanence menu and it will display text asking for video setting:

Text should appear saying whether it detects HDMI video or not, if you see the text, then select "yes", otherwise simply wait a moment and it will switch to composite automaticly.

When your Advent laptop isn't booting properly, you probably have a problem with your startup disk. When the startup disk is acting up you may take it to a repair shop, or you may save a lot of money and fix it yourself. Windows 7 computers come with built-in software that will allow you to repair your startup disk in just a couple of minutes.

Start your computer and press down on the "F8" key. Click on the "Repair your computer" option in the "Advanced Boot Options" menu that appears on the screen.

Press the "Enter" key.Choose your keyboard layout on the next screen and click the "Next" button.

Click on the "Startup Repair" tool in the "System Recovery Options" screen.

Wait for the computer to repair the start-up disk

Go to settings-->system settings-->Restore Ps3 system.
Delete all hard disk content and restore the system software to its default settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform this operation.
After the operation has been completed, the initial setup screen will be displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the operation.

switch power back off, teun it on, hold power touch on the front down--> PS3 will turn on, keep holding until it turns off. when it turns off, take of your finger. hold down your finger again on the power touch, green light will blink, keep holding, you will hear one peep, then two peeps (when you hear the two peeps take off you finger); a menu will show up, chose restore factory default setting then ok, PS3 will restart, hopefully that will fix it

Is the disk in good condition? check for scratches and smudge marks.

yellow light indicates a system failure sorta like the xbox 360s red ring of death if your system is still under warrenty contact sony and tell them the problem they will probably ask you to send it in

maybe its on the wrong chanel????

Try using a different hard drive. The reader arm may be stuck on the platter inside your hard drive so it can't fully boot. Thanks.

Try getting a new AV Option, well actually first startup your PS3, startup your controller, and hit the center PS3 button, because those 2 options are only in the Main PS3 Option, which is accesed and closed through hitting the middle button on your controller. Hope this helped.
