Question about SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player

1 Answer files I have an older sandisk e260 and want to download audiobooks from, but after downloading them onto my computer, I can't get them onto the sandisk. The downloaded files end in .aa. Is there a converter to get them into a format that I could use?

Hi tallone75,

I believe you are asking for the AudibleManager software from

You will need to:

  1. install a software called AudibleManager from the website ( to enable your computer to download digital audio; and,
  2. create a Audible account if you do not have any.
To transfer the audiobook files to your player:
  1. Connect your device to the computer.
  2. Open the AudibleManger software and follow its instructions.
If you are asked to activate your device, use the username and password of your Audible account to activate.

Should you have any question about the AudibleManager software or your Audible account, contact (

If you have any additional questions, you can reach Philips Consumer Care @ 1-888-744-5477.

I cannot listen to an "audible" book on my sansa player. I get the error message "please activate device with audible manager to play this title". I don't know what audible manager...

"Audible" books are copy protected to prevent unauthorized copying or sharing.
Download the Audible Manager software from
When you load that software and sign on to your account, you will be able to sync the information into the Sansa player that will authorize the audiobook to play on the Sansa.

I have an AA file that I downloaded from, it's a book. When I try to sync it to the Sony Walkman from Windows Media Play, I get an error. The error says "Windows Media Player cannot sync...

The "AA" file type is not supported in the NWZ MP3 players. However, you are still able to place audiobooks onto your player if you convert the file to one of the supported file audio formats: MP3. WMA, AAC-LC, and PCM. Remember that there are several iterations of MP3, such as variable bit rate and frequency range and the player does not play some of them.

What I do is that I pull the file into Audacity and convert it there. Another option is that if you can burn the audiobook onto a CD, you can then rip to WMP and then sync it to your player. That is how I get my language audiobooks onto my player. The last option, which I have never tried, is to get it into ITunes, then sync it to your player that way. ITunes will automatically convert the file before syncing it onto the player.

Hope that helps.

I have downloaded an audiobook and transferred it onto my mp3 player, but the message "File format not supported" pops up and will not play the book

I had the same issue with my downloads, since their audiobooks use the copyright-protected format *.AA. I had to go buy an mp3 player that supported that file extension.

Downloaded books from the library won't play

I was having the same problem when I used Overdrive Media Console to transfer my audiobook files to my Sansa. I updated the license and retransferred and even tried changing the USB settings on the mp2 player. What finally worked? Using Windows Media Player to sync the files instead. When I hooked up my Sansa I chose "use WMP to sync files" and then I dragged/dropped the audiobook files to the mediaplayer window. The audiobook now plays without any problems since WMP made sure the files have the latest subscription update code.

Can't transfer Audible files to my Sansa Clip

The link to the operating manual (which includes the Audiobook instructions) is here:

What I would do is drag and drop the Audible files from the folder that Audible creates to store your audiobooks to the Audible folder of the Sansa Clip, instead of using the Audible Manager.

Philips SA304X and audiobooks

It does not support Audible. I have funny insider information on this - Philips originally planned to make it Audible compatible, and even added an Audible folder. In the end, they didn't seal the deal and sent out players that were not compatible with audible, but have an Audible folder in them. LOL.

A workaround is to download audiobook files in mp3-only format. You won't be able to use them like an audiobook, but they will be available for lsiten.

Audiobook setting

Instead of dragging the audiobooks to the "music" folder, drag them to the "audible" folder - this player only gives full functionality for audiobooks if you are using the Audible audiobook svc. Otherwise it will play the audiobook as one long mp3 file swithout proper chapter breaks, etc.
