my ipod is stuck with the screen that says do not disconnect!

My 3rd generation iPod began by not playing songs, just halting at the beginning of the song and not advancing. More and more songs became affected and now it's stuck on one song, not playing, and won't shut off. Ran diagnostics and it came back with the message that it did not detect an iPod connected.

First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top and slides back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. If it is to the left, here's how you reset:

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.

Thanks, the reset worked - I found a video on (of all places) youtube that illustrated it. Oh, and the hold switch for the 3rd generation is on the bottom.

My ipod won't turn on i just have a white screen and tha in nts only when it`s pluged

Welcome to Fixya

Looks like the software just hanged-up on you. Try to reset the Ipod by following the procedures below.

1st option:
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until the Apple logo appears).
You may need to repeat the reset several times.
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.

2nd option (Disk Mode):
Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2 hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
Turn the Hold switch on, then back to off.
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears
Immediately switch your figures to press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until "Disk Mode" appears at the top.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen, restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory settings).
Note: Do not disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

Thanks for using Fixya!

This happened to me. What worked was turning off the ipod (not stand by mode). Turn it back on and plug it in, it should work.

My ipod got stuck totally .does not function at all . it almost no keys are working.. nothing works .

Try reseting it. Hold down the "Menu" button and the middle button for about 7-8 seconds. The apple logo should appear, then just wait about 5-6 seconds for your ipod to start up again.

Hope this helps!

Deleted some files and now unable to play songs

simply you need to delete everything on the ipod and then uninstall it and then reinstall it. this will replace those folders, that yes, you did stupidly remove, and it should be no more than a ten minute task even with replacing the data.
