i can not set-up any dial-up connection. whenever i try to set-up a dial-up connection, my Acer Aspire 5570z always says "is your modem on?". How could i fix it? I need to set-up dial connection. Thanks

- A friend gave me his computer and has left the country. It was previously networked to his system. it has a 56 k dial up modem plugged in but the computer does not recognise the modem under plug and play. Does it have something to do with previous networking as my computer is listed under 2nd computer and was obviously networked to a computer running broadband. Help please!!!- broncBest Solution

do your pc have a dial-up modem card?
What's the brand? Go to download the latest driver for the modem and try and see.
If not, right click on my computer icon, go to hardware tab, select "device manage", see does it detect any modem driver or not.
If after installing the driver still the same and can't be detected, most properly your modem is going to "heaven".....
Try to change another modem, see whether it can work or not.
