Lexmark All-in-One Printer with PictBridge Logo

Lexmark Imaging studio freezes.

Everytime I try to use the program, it freezes.

I´m using a Lexmark 4550 all in one printer with WIFI, wich i´m using by wireless connection to my Dell laptop.

I had this problem since i got the printer, but i though it was because of my OS (Windows XP profesional SP3) , which was not going well latetly, so I formated and reinstalled windows xp with SP2 only.

When i installed the All in one on the new OS installation, it worked perfectly, so it did the software (lexmark imaging studio or LIS, as I'll refer to since now), the program started very quickly, no error messages, no frozen screes.

But i had to install some other software, wich i list next (only the most relevant):

SP3 for windows XP.
kaspersky insternet security 7.
office 2007,
java runtime enviroment (the one some java aplets require on web pages to view correctly)
microsoft .net framework 2.0
Windows installer update (an update for windows)

and suddenly the software stoped working. Every time i acces the program, it takes a long time to response, the wellcome screen of the app is diferenta than before (before, on the left side it showed a message that said somothing like i had to scan from the panel of the all in one since i was using the printer by the network). The wellcome screen of the app now has some icons, such as scaning, fax, copy, etc. and every time i clic on any or a menu, LIS freezes, so i have to end the App4.exe proces to close the application. After that, i cannot acces LIS again until i restart my pc.

I´ve tried to uninstall an re-install the program, run it with antivirus off, but the problem remains.

The good thing is that i can scan to my laptop. Wen i select this option on the front panel of the All in one, it downloads the apps and returns the image to the computer, I mean, all functions are accesible from the panel of the 4550 and they work, the only problem is that i can't chage any settings or use any of the tools the program provides.

I hope anyone can help me.

Greeting. Saludos. Sorry for the bad english.

I made it¡¡¡¡ This is how:

In Lexmark support page: http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=content&segment=SUPPORT&locale=es&userlocale=ES_MX&id=HO681&productCode=LEXMARK_X4550&actp=TOP_DOCS (this is in spanish) I found the solution.

Basically, I had to turn off some services that were interfering with the ones of Lexmark Imaging Studio. I didn't turn off all services, just two of them: bonjour for windows (a service installed with Itunes, wich is not too important) and a service for a PDF to WORD converter program, called Solid Documents, wich I uninstalled completely). After doing so, LIS worked just fine.

Is there some other way of getting this machine to scan documents to e-mails? I had a friend do this once but can't remember how she did it.

Yes, the printer can scan documents for emailing. You can use the Lexmark Imaging Studio to scan to email. Go to Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark 3500-4500 Series -> Lexmark Imaging Studio -> E-mail. Select the Photo, Several Photos, or Document option. Click Start. Click Create E-mail to have your images attached to an e-mail message.
For more information, you can refer to the Lexmark X4550 user's guide. For Windows, you can access the user's guide by going to the Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark 3500-4500 Series -> User's Guide.
You can also download your printer's user's guide for free from the Lexmark website. Click on this link Lexmark 3500-4500 User's Guide.
I hope this information has been helpful. Thanks.

Problem with Imaging Studio

I have a Lexmark 2500 and was also unable to download the Imaging Studio. I was able to fix it by inserting the CD but not allowing the computer to install it. I went to my computer and right clicked on the CD and opened the files on the CD. I clicked on the Applications File Folder and opened it. There is a Setup/Setup Launcher that has a pic of a CD and shield next to it. I clicked on that and installed the Imaging Studio. Although it did not say Imaging Studio that is what installed! I never had to uninstall the printer only download that application. I'm so happy to have it working!! I have installed it on 3 computers! I hope this works for you!

I used to get the photo imaging studio.now it shows an error.

I assume the"studio" is included with the printer? A complete uninstall and reinstall of the printer drivers and program will probably correct this. Remember to restart the computer after the uninstall. It may be recommended to do the install with Antivirus disabled... check your manual.

Printer cannot retrieve application form

I had same problem on windows vista. The imaging studio used to work on Win XP but not on Vista. I tried the CD that comes with the printer and downloaded the driver from lexmark. In the end I foind that:
In explorer go to c:\drivers\printer\4300\applications and click on the setup.exe file. It finishes the install and then the next time you go to start, programs, lexmark center you get the full drop list of the All in1, imaging studio, photo center etc.

Device monitor application problem

Make sure that the Lexmark Imaging Studio program is running. This was installed when you set up your printer.
If you see the multi-colored icon in your task bar for Lexmark Imaging Studio then try pressing the scan mode button twice. You should be able to scan then.

Lexmark 5400 series

Problem: Lexmark cannot retrieve applications list

I have the Lexmark X3550 with the WiFi option board installed (makes it same as the model X4550) and get the “cannot retrieve applications list” message on one of the five computers connected to my router (Linlsys WRT54G V8) and using wireless printing and scanning. Just like everyone else with a similar Lexmark WiFi printer/scanner, I can print wireless, but cannot get the wireless scanner to work on one of my PCs.

The fix, in my case, was to change the Lexmark network name as follows.

1. Launch Lexmark Imaging Studio.
2. Right-Click on “View or change network settings”.
3. Enter a new network name in the first box shown. (This box contained the correct network name for my PC, but another name was needed to make the scanner work. I simply added “-lex” at the end of the current network name.)
4. Right-Click OK. You should return to the Imaging Studio screen.
5. Close the Lexmark Imaging Studio window. (The tray icon should remain at the screen lower right.)
6. On the printer, press the Scan Mode button.
7. On the printer’s display screen, select the Computer Name that you entered for the new network name. Just use the arrow buttons until the exact name is shown.
8. Press the Check button. The display screen should show “Downloading Applications List”. Within about 10 seconds the message should change to “ *Scan to Computer ”. Wireless scanning should now work.
9.. Press the Start Color or Start Black button. “Requesting Scan” will be shown. After a few seconds scanning will start. The process is a bit slow.
10. After a while you may see an empty small Lexmark window onscreen. Later, the Lexmark Imaging Studio will appear onscreen, then change to show many options and features. An image of the scanned item will appear in a Lexmark window. Save and/or edit the image. Another scan can be done by pressing the printer’s Check button again. Be sure the correct computer name is shown on the printer’s display.

That’s it. A new computer name was the solution. Your PC and printer may require a restart (power off) after changing the “computer name”.

Regards, Fbyrd
