Toshiba Satellite BIOS Password Bypass

By jbhua on Sep 20, 2009

I have a toshiba satellite model # PSLB8U-027025. I am locked out of my own computer due to a BIOS password upon start up. The things I know: No tech CD of any kind will fix this due to the simple fact that the Bios boots up before anything else including the cd drive no matter what. There are no "backdoor" passwords for this specific model. Some say you can short out the COSM batt and continue and although I have succesfully shorted the battery, after it still asked me for the password. Aparently this is a very common problem. All links and info I have found for this known issue have diagrams directing me to short out the JOPEN1, but NOT for this particular model ( my motherboard is totally different from the Toshiba Satelitte pics posted through the various forms I have tried, so please do not direct me to those unless it is my particular model #). I have been informed that removing the actual lithium battery "chip" for 10mins will wipe everything and I can start over (while very sad, I am willing to do so as this computer is totally worthless as is) Can some sone please direct me to this battery and tell me if this will even work. I will be forever in debt to you. Many many thanks in advance  Joshua Email: jbhua@me.com

- Thank you so much for your quick response. But just to be clear, if I unplug my laptop and remove the CMOS battery for 24 hours then replace and boot up, I will be fine? There is no other lithium battery to remove? And of so, can you help with guiding me to it? Thanks again Josh

A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

B. By Using Software:

I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds

Removing the CMOS battery for 10 mins will not do it as the chip has a "bubble memory" this will continue to hold all settings for at least 12 hrs so 24 hrs with no power of any kind is recommended to clear it.
