If it truly needs a driver then install patin-couffin It will bypass all that windows uses now and accurately talk between drives and the dvd-rom. But it sounds to me that your dvd-rom just failed. You never know when they are going to go

Keep in mind that unlocking a Sony DVD player almost always voids the unit's warranty.

Most Sony Dvd Players can be unlocked using this trick, but I can't guarantee as I haven't tried with this model. You can give a try.
First, switch On the player, eject/open the tray and enter 2812 using the Remote control. The default DVD region code will come up on the screen/lcd. Change it to what ever valid code you want to (in your case, change it to 0). The multi-region code is 9, so you can opt for that to play all the DVD format. Now press "Enter" on the remote and again, "Clear" and then "Exit". You can try whether it's been taken effect or not.

You can also use a freeware called DVDFab to unlock/Decrypt locked DVD. You can download it from here (click here). It's a pack of several DVD softwares and the only Free application is DvdFab, the remaining application with the pack are Trial version only.

if it is a DVD drive for a computer you can watch movies with VLC because it ignores the region codes.
