My desktop turns on (fans, lights, etc.) but the monitor says "No signal". I know the monitor works (hooked it up to another computer and all was fine). Just before this happened, my computer froze up so I shut it down and then attempted to start it back up.

Well i did not understand what acctually your problem is....
if u can not see anything and only see that message then the problem is which your graphic card or with your monitors data cable....

what you do is that check your graphic card ..... if you have installed a graphic card other than the default built in graphic card ..... then what you do is that plug in your data cable of your monitor into the builtin graphic card and then check the monitor....

if you have already using the buildin grapic card then what i recommend is to take to computer to a computer consultant.....

to try with a different monitor to check if the problem is with the data cable...

gud luck!!!!!!

Monitor shows no signal message.

Check for a loose CPU. You video will never work independent of the CPU. I assume you used CPU thermal grease. Also double check memory. Additionally, not all CPUs work with all motherboards even if they have the same socket. Try another computer on the monitor. I personally never do more then 1 change at a time to isolate the causes. You may also have a loose cable. If your monitor was defective you would not get such a message from it. It would most likely just be blank.

No picture on my Gateway monitor My Gateway FPD 22755W TFT LCD Monitor powers up but has no picture. The blue lights on the lower righthand side come on. It makes the little banjo strum, but absolutely no...

First of all disconnect the power & unplug the video cable from the back of the CPU & Monitor. Power-on the monitor & wait 10 secs. If the Monitor is functioning correctly, a 'No Signal' message appears & sometimes keeps bouncing around like a screen saver motion. This means your monitor is OK, if no signal message is not showing then either backlight or inverter(power) input has gone KAPUT. Replacing either or both may not turn out to be a cost effective soln. However if the damage is only in the cable then simply replace it or use the HDMI port..........................Sodeep63

Keeps telling me no signal

The motherboard is not telling you there is no signal, the monitor is..
In this order:

  1. Test the connection from graphics card to monitor, try a different monitor to eliminate this from the issues.
  2. If other monitor works, the old one is causing the problems
  3. If new monitor does not work:
  • Check the graphics card is seated properly, if possible, test with another graphics card, if this works, the issue is with the graphics card
  • If this does not work, check the fan on the cpu, is it spinning? If not, make sure the fan is connected to the motherboard
  • If the fan is spinning, remove all the ram, reboot, you should get a series of beeps, make note of these and repost them (computer will not boot)
  • If you get NO beeps with ram removed, the CPU or motherboard are possibly dead, if possible, replace CPU with known working one and retest with and without ram in, make sure you have thermal grease on the CPU>heatsink. Replace the Ram (or one module)
  • If you get a single beep and the motherboard powers the monitor, the CPU was your issue
  • If you get no beeps, confirmed death of motherboard.
Possible other solutions: Remove CMOS battery, leave for 1 minute and then replace, see if it boots
Check the power switch from the computer front panel is not sticking

No signal when power button turn on

Sounds like either the power supply unit's fan isnt functioning and the the uniy over heats and the computer then wouldnt boot up (to protect itself) or the processor is overheating. But rather seems like a power supply problem

Can't find video signal

If screen says "Signal cable not connected " all the time till power led switches to Amber chances are monitor is ok and problem is with graphic card or cpu.Connect to Known working CPU and confirm that monitor is the problem.
If same problem persists on another working cpu after changing signal cable, the interface board in the monitor could be defective.

PLease rate solution and provide feedback.

Samsung color monitor

This problem may arise from monitor as well as from cpu.
First of all check it by unplugging the VGA monitor cable.
This will display the "Check Signal Cable" depending on the model of the monitor. But a message will appear rolling on the screen, if it is not a very old monitor.
If the message is appearing OK and green light is continuously on, that means ur monitor is working fine.
The problem may be with VGA cable or with the booting of CPU and probably the RAM. Recommended solution is to reconnect the RAM and then try, if u think u can do. Otherwise call a hardware engineer.
If there is no message and still the light is turning green and yellow. That means the problem is definintely in the monitor.

Your well wisher
