Freeview box Technika aestbs7 lost most of the chanels. It happened last Thur (17/09/2009), then I was able to retune it on FR, but lost most of the chanels again last night, Sat, during the storm with lightning. Can only see BBC1, BBC2, BB4 and CBBC(ch 70) and other random channels, like, Parlament, News of the World, etc. I live in SE London, get signal from Crystal Palace. My friend, who lives 2 miles from me, has the same problem with hers as well. Do I need a new box? Please, help!

hi the same happened to mine. a22inch freeview dvd.wont pick up a signal when tuning in.Its had very little use ( 150hrs ish) as its in our caravan. we now plug in a separate freeview box via the scart.Tesco dont want to know as it was 3months out of warranty at the time of complaint.Anyway Im meeting Tesco in County court in july. When TV channels are moved from one frequency to another frequency that was previously used by a different channel (sorry, but there's no simple way of saying that !) as has happened recently in th UK, some digital TVs and digiboxes struggle to sort the channel list out properly and channels can go missing as you describe.

If your equipment has the option to delete all currently stored channels (normally in the tuning menu options) then do so and then do a full re-tune.
Sometimes, this solves the problem as the equipment is no longer aware of any previous use of a frequency and just loads every channel it finds.

If this doesnt work, or your equipment doesnt have the option, then there is normally the option soemwhere in the menus to retore the item to "factory defaults/configuration". This will clear all previously stored channels and after a full re-tune your missing chanels should be there. However, any other configuration changes you previously made, e.g picture size, output type (RGB/NSCT/etc), etc will be lost and you'll need to set these again.

NB. some regions of the country have lost some channels temporarily now until after the switch over programme completes at the end of 2012. If you visit the Freeview website, this will tell you if your area is affected.

You may lose some channels when you retune the TV as the channels have been rearranged. To locate them look at the EPG although you may still find that some channels are no longer available on FREEVIEW. See the following link for additional information

I think the point he is making is that he only has a universal remote - not the original, so the problem isn't not being able to find the channels, but not being able to select the retune option in the first place. I have same problem - the remotes that shipped with this TV were rubbish (I have gone through 2!) and some buttons stop working. The retune / setup memu is seperate to the other basic set-up stuff and many universal remotes don't have theis 'other' button. Best solution, get a replacement remote that is MADE to work with this TV then you can auto-tune to your hearts content.

It appears that somebody at Technika thought it would be a wonderful wheeze to the box ask for a PIN when retuned. My daughter had the brainwave of putting in four zeros and voila!!!
