Question about LG DLE5977 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

How do I get inside this DLE5977

My LG dryer has started to squeak loudly. I know that it is a belt a pully rubbing and I want to open it up and check it out however...

There seems to be no access panel on this machine. The accompaning washer has straight forward access to the inside of the machine (a couple screws and remove the small back access panel). The dryer seems to be some sort of complicated folding metalic puzzle that requires the whole external shell to be unscrewed and removed. Is there a repair manual for this thing? Is this designed this way on purpose to thwart easy repair?

There are 3 screws across the back of the top. The lid then slides back and comes off. From there it gets alot more complicated because you end up taking the front off and the bracket behind that then you can lift out the drum.

check the pully on the motor and check the tention of the drive mechanism. It's usually a belt around the drum.

Dryer is making a squealing noise when you turn on and it smells like it is overheating. Kinda like a belt rubbing or something.

Severe noise - drum is jammed and won't turn - LG DLE-5977 dryer

A piece of clothing is probably caught in the blower wheel.
Remove lint filter.
Use flashlight to look into filter housing to the lower left.
You may be able to retrive the item if you can see it.
Try rotating the drum in both directions while looking.

New GE Profile Dryer makes intermittent loud squeeking or rubbing

Your drum may be out of round. The drum belt on the outside of the drum may be rubbing against the cabinet. When the cabinet heats up, the side walls of the cabinet may be bowing inward, thus making contact with the belt on the drum. This would explain why it is intermittant. When the heater turns off, the cabinet cools and the sides bow back out.

Maytag atlantis dryer squeals very loudly when running

you have answered your own question! The belt will have become loose due to age/stretching. You hear cars making the same squealing noise when thgey rev up. Its a real squeal/screech. It may possibly be the drum rubbing on the chassis due to beariing failure, but doubtful.
So on some machines the motor is on adjustable brackets that let you move the motor away from the drum pully by loosening the bolts/nuts and then re-tighten. Don't leaver the motor down and then lock off the nut/bolt as this will make the belt too tight, and cause the belt to fail or the bearing to fail over time Take the back cover off the machine and all will be revealed.
best of luck it's a simple fix if your diagnosis is correct
