1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
2. Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and the wall socket, then wait for one minute.
5. Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
8. Print a Self Test to verify product is functional.
9. Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print from the computer.
10. If the error is still there replace the unit

1. Get the unit into the “Support Menu” by following the steps below
A. - Press and hold the “*” key.
B. - Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo”
C. - Press and release in sequence the “1”, “2” and “3” buttons.
Display should say “Support” and display the FW rev (something like R0631R)
2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration Menu”. (on C8100 use Touch Screen)
3. Press and release the “OK” button.
4. Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to “Hardware failure status”,
5. Press and release the “OK” button.
6. Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”.
7. Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue”.
8. Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the “Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.
10. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer
11. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER” followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK.
12. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the “ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
13. To verify printer functionality print a SELF TEST PAGE. If SELF TEST prints, then printer is ready for use or Software Installation.
14. If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.

We only needed lines 1 - 9 and got our printer back up and running - thank you!

By now you tried everything and are you're getting ready to replace your printer, right? Why don’t you try this last and best solution. If you are not using HP Printer Cartridges, forget all that "*" "#" nonsense! That process does not last 10 minutes once you power up the printer again!

This next step DOES work but is only intended for OUT-OF-WARRANTY products. Performing this next step on IN-WARRANTY products can VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Do this step at your own risk, but it's really not hard and you have nothing to loose!

There is a CMOS battery inside your printer about the size of a quarter that keeps track on your printer’s history, ink replacements, resets, etc… HP wants you to buy buy buy their cartridges with little to no ink and that is where they make their money!!! If your printer has been giving "Expired Ink Cartridge" warnings because you have aftermarket cartridges installed, do this next step and it works!!

Reset the data stored on your Hp product by removing the CMOS battery for about 30 minutes and then replace the battery. Unfortunately I could not exactly tell where you can find this battery inside your product as location differs by model. I have a HP C7280 an it is on the right side panel. Remove it with a couple of screws and pop out the panel. The battery should look like a quarter and is on the top side of the circuit board inside your printer. You will need to un secure the circuit board and locate the battery. Pop out the battery and replace it 30 minutes later and the printer works like new.

The only memory erased is the ink cartridge history. Wireless and other settings remain! Enjoy!

Hi Karsten, This suggestion might be a long shot, but it sounds very similar to problem other folks (including myself) are having with their HP all in one printers. The code you mentioned sounds like an Ink System Failure code. My C6180 had the 0xc19a0035 Ink System Failure code, eventually the printer would power on and off every 15-20 seconds - continuously. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fixed the on and off problem and also fixed the ink system failures the printer was having. A similar fix may apply to your printer.acca299.jpg

HP photosmart c6180 all in one printer error message of 0xc19a0035, ink system has failed. unable to copy, receive faxes, or print. what can i do to fix it?

Hello,

The "Ink System Failure" error is caused by air in the ink fed tubes. We have a step by step guide to perform a ink purge on the printer posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/hp-printer-repair/ Following this procedure should get your printer back running in about 10 minutes.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

My HP photosmart c6180 all in one printer is giving me an error message of 0xc19a0035, ink system has failed. unable to copy, receive faxes, or print. What do I do?

The Ink System Failure message (0xc19a0035) on my C6180 were early symptoms that progressed continuous power cycling. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fix stopped my printer from power cycling and also fixed the ink system failures the Printer was having.74b7f9c.jpg

Go to http://www.ccl-la.com/blog and search for HP Photosmart. They have two protocols for clearing ink system failure errors. One resets the machine and the other re-primes ink through the lines.
