Question about Philips Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a mp3 gogear, its only 1 month old, It will not charge on the computer. I have charged other devices on the ubs ports and they work fine. The mp3 player charged fine the first time and then that was it. I have tried the reset button and locking and unlocking and even tried to re sync it again but nothing. I seen a charger in the stores where you just plug it into the wall. Is this what I need?

If you have an old usb phone charger you can use that one to but also try using a diffrent usb cable it could be just a simple problem like that but yeah a wall charger should work

How dont know how to charge my mp3 player

Some things to check for when your player does not act like its taking a charge. USB Cable Make sure that the USB cable is properly plugged in and use the original cable that came with your player. Computer in Hibernation mode Make sure the computer isn't entering hibernation or sleep mode while the device is connected. The computer must be ON in order to charge your player. USB Port 2.0 Make sure the player is connected to a USB 2.0 port (1.1 occasionally causes charging problems). USB Port location Try plugging into different USB ports (i.e. USB port in the back of the computer); occasionally the front USB ports have limited power to charge up the device. Battery Make sure the battery is fully charged. It takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge the battery. Latest firmware Depending on what player you have, make sure it's up to date with the latest firmware. AC charger (optional) AC chargers (sold separately) have a 500-1000 milliamp max output, which provides much better charging ability than a USB port.

MP3 Player Not Charging, Not Turning On

Do a a hard reset if the mp3 player isn't charging.
How to do this?
1)Near to the USB port u will find a tiny hole below which "Reset" will be mentioned.Insert a small pin into that hole and walla"Hard Reset".
I suffered from the same problem and after doing this , my GoGear started working. So all the very best!!!

Freezes and wont charge

Try repairing the device:
1) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) - if you don't see it, then re-run the installation CD or grab the "Device/Firmware Manager" from the Philips website
2) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
3) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off (if you haven't done so already) - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new.

You may have to charge the device fully for 3 or 4 hours AFTER this process is complete.

MP3 keeps deleting everything

Here is something that might help from tha mp3 doctor which i have gotton, thogth I still need the deivce manger:

1) Make sure the usb charger is in the lock position before trying to charge.
2) Open Philips Device Manager and try repairing the device. [connect your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device working normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.]

3) after repair, perform a firmware upgrade ("Update" tab in Philips Device Mgr while GoGear is connected to computer - see Philips website for more details)

Worst case scenario - Even rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles. The battery for the SA178 is an LI-Polymer 300mAh 12-hr battery. Philips won't fix it for you, but you might want to find a local repair service.

Hope that helps and I just toke this from what I was told.
