Mouse not working after BIOS upgrade on Intel D845GRG motherboard

I upgraded the BIOS on my Pentium 4 2,4GHz PC with an Intel D845GRG motherboard, but after that the mouse does not work as the driver does not exist anymore. I tried re-installing Windows XP Professional, but this did not solve the problem.

Unplugging and plugging the mouse does not initiate the "new hardware found" Windows message.

What should I do to solve the problem?

Hi James,

Your best bet will be to visit the Asus website and click on the 'support' tab at the top of the screen. Select the link for 'drivers' and specify your motherboard model. It's possible that there will be a BIOS update for your Asus m/board.
If so, do a BIOS flash and check if your PC will then accept your new CPU. NB! Take care when flashing the BIOS. Make sure there are no power interruptions etc. while performing this procedure as this could corrupt your BIOS software and render your motherboard useless.

Feel free to message me should you need more details or further assistance.
Best wishes,

In short, yes you can upgrade to a P4 cpu but from the compatibility chart at Intel support, it looks like the upper limit for this older board is the P4 2.6GHz.

Note: Even at that, running the P4 2.6 would require a BIOS upgrade to P12 or greater.

Luckily, the following link has the information you seek: (for BIOS info, click the "BIOS Version" link in the upper right corner of the compatibility table provided)

I hope this info is helpful!

I want to upgrade my hpdv1000 pentium M processor whats the maximum upgrade allowed for this? i have upgraded it to 2gb ram from 512mb and 250gb hd from 60gb and its doin fine.

You should be able to upgrade the CPU, since it seems that the DV1000's motherboard uses a socket CPU design. But, obviously, HP would rather have you choose the CPU that you want from the beginning and stick with it.
The first thing to do is to check HP website to see what other configurations were/are sold for your model. If they sell it with faster CPUs then you can upgrade to one of them...

In order for a particular processor to be compatible with a particular laptop:
(1) the processor must be physically compatible with the laptop socket, in your case I thing you have a Soket 479 processor
(2) the laptop chipset must support the processor.
(3) the chipset front side bus speed must match the processor front side bus speed, in your case 400Mhz.
(4) the laptop BIOS must support the processor.

So I listed here processors with FSB at 400Mhz, I gues that DV1000 as a 855GM Motherboard that supports only 400Mhz with Socket 479

Bios upgrade

You can use Winflash to upgrade the motherboard BIOS or during boot using text or character driven interface . These utilities can be downloaded free of cost from the mobo manufacturer website. BUT MIND YOU IF YOU DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH OR NOT SURE OF THIS PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AS ANY ERROR IN THE PROCESS OF UPGRADING MOTHERBOARD BIOS WILL RENDER THE THE MOTHERBOARD USELESS.
