Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

1 Answer

Scrambled screen a couple of days ago the setting on my computer changed, i began trying to reset them by clicking all the usual methods (i.e. properties, settings and also by restoring from a previous date. Then i realized that a new program had been installed on my computer even though I rarely download any items. Then I decided to delete the software from my system. It worked or so it seemed. I went to reboot my system and the screen was scrambled. Scrambled to the point that I could not see anything on the monitor. I could not see the mouse arrow or the start box on the menu bar. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Well, whatever the cause, it would seem to be software related. If you cannot boot into an earlier restore point, try booting from an XP disk. May have to do a repair on the O.S.
Also, just for fun, connect an external monitor and see if it has a screen.
Good luck

My usern name and my passord connot match

you will need to reset or change your password but you have to be the computers administrator to do this
click start control panel Open User Accounts in Control Panel. On the Users tab, click the name of the user whose password you want to change, and then click Reset Password. In New password and Confirm new password, type the new password, and then click OK. Notes You can change passwords only for local computer accounts, such as guest, administrator, or accounts you create for your computer. You cannot change your network logon password in User Accounts. To change your own password, press CTRL ALT DELETE and then click Change Password also if you want set a BIOS password during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time to press a certain key to enter set up Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there also click start control panel user accounts on the users tab click the name of the computer administrator you can change the password there hope this helps you should make a note of any passwords and keep them separate to your computer incase of memory lapses

The problem, whatever it is, has resulted in a short circuit condition which has activated the protection system.

The set will need servicing in all likelyhood. Do a hard reset to see if that will restore operations; if not, you will need service. A hard reset is easiest to achieve by unplugging the power cord for 4 hours or more. Then try again.

If the hard reset does not help it will likely cost around $150 plus the house call. But, a tech will need hands-on measurements to isolate the problem to the exact failing components.

Go into Network connections in control panel and right click on the wireless network icon, then click on properties. In here change the settings so that Windows manages your wirless settings rather than the Belkin software, I find this normally works a lot better and more reliable. You should then be able to double click the wireless icon (Not the Belkin Icon) in the bottom corner of your screen and connect to your wireless network.
