My fax machine is giving me the error message 3-31H every time that it grabs paper from the top drawer. If I apply pressure to the back bracket that holds the paper forward in the drawer when it is grabbing the paper, then sometime I can get it to function correctly. However, the pin and the bracket seem to be installed just fine. It is as if for some reason the paper is being pushed back against that bracket abnormally, and therefore, when I prevent that from happening by applying pressure, it functions. But, if I do not apply the pressure, then it malfunctions at the stage that it is pulling the paper from the drawer and shuts down displaying the error code. Any ideas?

Hi there the error code that you are getting appears to be for the left lock where the fuser is make sure that the door is shut fully and turn the machine off then on again if this doesn't work then it is more likely to be the laser unit and this will need replacing.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Thanks J

Possibly the fax line is open (busy). Try ringing the fax number, see what you get. Try unplugging the fax and plug a normal analogue handset into the line. See if you are getting a dial tone.
If not, then the cabling or line are faulty. Talk to your carrier. If yes then replace the cable on the fax (if possible) or have it looked at.
