Re: non responsive

Power off then power on both the internet service providers modem and your router, if the DSL does not link up through the modem to your router. You will need to reestabilish the PPPOE internet connection to your service provider, this can be done on the router or the PC. BPCS

Belkin54g router will not work with cable modem....but it works fine with the dsl modem ....all lights are on it just won,t go through the router. do i need a different router ?

You need to reset the router settings to work with a cable modem. If you don't have the original instructions that came with the router the easiest way to do it would be to hold the reset button down on the back of the router for 30 seconds (use a paperclip or some other pointed object). After that it will just start working by itself but it will not have any wireless security set up. To do that you log in to the router via your web browser. Open Internet Explorer (or whatever you use for internet browsing), type in the address The username and password for that modem I believe is username: admin password: (blank). It should be printed on the bottom of the router as well. Then just follow the set up wizard.

Was working ok then internet down and red light on router constant - have done the turn off turn on routine and reset router to no avail. have also plugged indirectly to computer - green light then comes...

Try rebooting both the modem and the router. It could be that the modem didn't pick up it's ip number when the internet went down. Then try pluggint you computer directly into the modem first to make sure it is setup and working properly. Then plug in the router (to the modem) and the PC plugged in directly to the router and check.

Once you have it connecting at that point then check the wireless settings on both the router and the pc. Then enable the wireless on the pc, unplug the LAN and switch to wireless network on the pc and see if it won't work.

If it works plugged in on the LAN but then not on the wireless then either your configuration isn't correct (ie wrong gateway ip number...gateway should be the same ip number as the 192.168.***.***) or perhaps the wireless part of the router died. It is possible for the wireless to die and the LAN (hard wired connection) to still work.

OK, my all you have to do to get your router to revert to default settings is to do a hard reset, there is a pin sized hole on the back of most routers, just stick a pin down this hole and hold it down for 5 to 10 seconds whilst the power is on to get it to reset, from there go into the management console via browser and do the settings again from there, dont forget to set up security for wireless or you will be running an open wireless hotspot for all your neighbors and passersby, lol, Hope this Helps...

I have no wireless internet. It went out all of the sudden last night. This is an urgent matter as I need it for work. Resetting router does not work, cable modem IS in working order, orange light...

Just to clarify when you say your computer does connect with an Ethernet chord you mean you are able to connect to the Internet? If so, you should be able to reach the management console and reconfigure the wifi by following these steps
Else when you say you reset the router did you try to reset it to the factory settings by holding down the reset button for 30 secs as shown here?

Loses internet connection I unplug or turn off the router then I will get the internet service for a little while it then shuts down. I contacted the cable service they sent a signal to the router box...

There could be a problem with this router's firmware that is why you are experiencing intermittent connection with it... Try hard resetting it and try reconfiguring it back again

Tiscali say my parent's 2wire router needs reconfigured. they say to contact 2wire to do this as tiscalli don't support this one. Do i need to phone them or can i do it relatively easily myself. (i don't...

you may be able to do this yourself. First open your internet browser and in the address bar type and this should get you into your router setup or status page. Find the reconfig in settings and go with factory default. As long as you know your password and log in information you should be ok. Tiscali are quite good at not accepting responsibility for their routers, I have reset mine on a number of occasions even though Tiscali would have you chase down the manufacturer. I hope this helps, once you are in the setup section it should be quite easy to sort it out.

No internet

Have you tried testing by bypassing your router and connecting your computer directly? If you were not able to connect, then your internet service provider should be contacted.

No internet and can't connect to laptop

Congratulations, as you went through all the right steps of the process of elimination and solved the problem yourself!! The WHR-G54s is apparently non functional as to wifi, but works fine as a cat 5 direct wire connect, which may also be indicative of pringle-can snooping by a needy neighbor. If you limited the number of connects to the wifi to one and some other person queued in ahead of you, it could cause the problem you cite. If the same problem occurs with the replacement linksys router try changing your encryption key or pw and see if that screens out the interloper, if that's your problem.

Let me know how this works out for you.

(It worked for me for WR850G, when I had a similar issue. However, don't know how your connection is setup.)

1. Switch-off the ISP modem that connects to the router
2. Switch off the wireless router
3. Now switch on the ISP modem
4. Switch on the wireless router
