HI,
I just bought the FreeAgent Pro 500gb & it says to switch out the module in the base and use the firewwire cable ( which I would like to do ). I took out the screw in the bottom , but the base does not come off easily and I did not want to force anything. What is the trick if any , to get the base off ?
Thanks
Rocky

Rocky, I had the same problem with my FreeAgent Pro 500gb last night when I took it out of the box. First, look at the Firewire replacement plate carefully and notice the little plug fastened to the inside base of that plate. The reason your plate won't come off even after you have removed the screw is because that plug is holding the plate in place. You will need to gently pry the baseplate up. I used a little pen knife in my pocket. However, first note the orientation and the location of the plug on the replacement module. Then you will know where best to pry up. Carefully pry as straight up as you can right beside where that plug will be on the presently attached base. Wiggling it up and down a bit will also help loosen the base plate. Once it is partially loose from the base, just lift it straight off. The new module goes back exactly like the first one. Just be sure to line up the plug on the new module to its receptacle in the bottom of the base. Tighten the screw carefully with a coin and you should be home free. Now my problem is that I can't find the On//Off switch on it. Must not have one?
