Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an ASUS Rampage Extreme 1366 with Intel i7. 3-WD 5000 AAKS and 1- VelociRaptor 3000 GLFS. Using my on board Intel Matrix storage I setup 3-500 GB to RAID 5 and 1- 300 Raptor NON RAID. When I try to set-up the 3-500 GB in RAID 5 with Vista 32 that works fine, but when I try to boot the Vista 64 on my Raptor which is non RAID I get a Quick flash of a blue screen and no boot. I am using Vista Boot Pro to Dual boot.

Press f8 repeatedly during start up to get to the advanced boot options, turn off the automatic restart on system failure / blue screen.

And let us know what the error message on the blue screen says.
Thanks

Hi,

To raid, or not to raid,? that is the question............

Hi,

Always a good question,

For #1

Always a good idea to mirror your OS drive for quick recovery. So yes I would use 40GB of the velociraptor for a mirror. However if your board supports it I would actually suggest you would be better served for your dollar to buy some 500GB+ WD greens or seagate 7200.12's(do NOT buy 7200.11) then set them up as raid5, frankly you'll get redundancy and speed, with more space. 4 Greens will perform as well as three VRs and cost less.

I currently run two Greens and 2 7200.12's on my home server and the 7 rating is 7.6 for my HDD and I've got 4.2TB of space for under $500.

I mentions some of the pro's and cons in detail on my blog last week Pro's and Cons.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I put 2 disks in raid 0 array on this controller

When you say "after merging the driver via a floppy at the txt setup" I think you are referring to pressing the F6 key to load the raid drivers. But I don't understand "restarting setup".
You will need the correct XP64bit drivers loaded on a floppy for this to work.
Maybe a good place to start is a temporary install of XP using 32bit drivers to prove all components are working.

Asus rampage 2 extreme no beeps on first boot, does not enter post, i.e nothing shows up on screen, with the 8 pin power connector in the motherboard the pc will boot then shutdown for 2 seconds and reboot...

1 - Test the memory in another pc; if it's at fault change it completely.
2 - That 8 pin connector is there to provide extra power to the processor sources - either one or more of them are fried = replace motherboard or the processor itself is gone =  test it in another pc and replace it if necessary.

I can't find how to connect my dvd writer to the Asus Rampage II Extreme motherboard. The missed pin in the connection cable is in a different location

If you are trying to connect your DVD Writer using an IDE cable, then:
1. First, make sure that you are connecting the IDE cale in the correct direction. Make sure that the Red (or colored) wire in the cable aligns with pin 1 in the connector.
2. If the cable & connector are aligned correctly, then try to find a replacement IDE cable without a missed pin or with the missed pin in the correct position. This can cause no harm to neither the DVD Writer nor the motherboard.
