Question about Polar T31 Transmitter and Belt Set

2 Answers

Polar FT60 heart Rate monitor worked fine for about 8 months. I attempted to use one day & found that I get the following message "Check Heart Rate Transmitter". I have seen this before when the transmitter strap was not making good contact. I adjusted the strap but still the same error. I have replaced both the watch battery & the transmitter battery. The watch seems to work properly, but it is difficult to tell if the transmitter is working. I measured a small voltage from the snaps on the back side of the transmitter when activated and have purchased a new transmitter strap. Any ideas?

I tried a brand new transmitter strap and it too behaved in the same way as the first transmitter strap. Is there a sync process that has to be completed after a battery change? Syncing the transmitter to the watch?

This generally means that either the battery needs repalcing or as you say when the transmitter strap is not making good contact. You should clean the strap with some surgical spirit on a clean cloth, preferably lint free cotton, and tthen wipe down with a saline solution made from 1 tablespoon table salt dissolved in 1 pint of water, again using a lint free cloth.

    No they should sync automatically.

I would remove the transmitter battery and check the contacts for oil / grease etc and then reinsert it. Assuming the watch is working OK then you do not have to do this again.

Have you checked the voltage of the transmitter battery itself? It should be a nominal 3V and if it is new you should see a slightly higher figure. If you have an ammeter then the nominal capacity of the CR2025 battery is 150mAH. Wipe it down with a clean soft dry lint free cloth or rub it with a piece of clean kitchen roll paper to make sure that both faces of the battery are clean. As the battery is the same for the watch and transmitter you can place the transmitter battery in the watch to see if it is OK. The transmitter battery should last for between 1.5 and 2 years after a new battery is installed and the watch battery should last between 1 and 1.5 years.

WARNING. You should also download all the data in your watch to make sure that it is completely empty of stored data before removing its battery. Make sure that you remove the watch battery carefully if you do so as not to damage the case seal. If in doubt don’t attempt it!

If you get nowhere your unit should be under a 2 year warranty so you can return it to Polar for servicing or replacement free of charge.

When left idle for so long a time out of use, the gadget kind of get expired.

Would not be sure if that is the case but you might have to replace it.

Cheers.

On a better note, I will advice you take it to the shop you bought the Monitor from or better still contact the manufacturer.

Polar ft40 watch doesnt work. I have replaced the battery and nothing happens.

This heart rate monitor has a generic flaw with the sensor. The touch sensor fails after a few months of use. It is not a battery issue. Return to where you purchased it. Buy another brand. All of the drug stores carry this watch which has an abnormal return rate. The sensor fails after a few months while the watch function is fine. Seems like planned obsolescence.
