A few things to check. Have you pulled drum, something could be caught between drum and body of dryer in the felt seal area. Or bearings in rollers could be worn. Also check belt tensioner way be worn. Thats all there is to a dryer has to be one of these.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This may happen due to a worn out belt or a broken gear in the transmission. And can also be due to idler pulley issue. Please disassemble it by following this procedure--

Drum Removal / Roller / Glide Access

  • Disconnect power supply to unit.
  • Remove Top Cover and Front Panel,

Top Cover / Door Switch / Front Panel /Gasket Removal—

1. Disconnect power supply to unit.
2. Use a plastic putty knife to depress the locking clip
between the Top Cover and Front Panel.
3. Disconnect wiring from the Door Switch.
4. 4. Depress the locking tabs on switch side and remove
through the front.
5. Remove two screws, 1 each side, from the back flange
of the Front Panel.
6. Tip Front Panel back and remove. Rotate Front Panel
to the back side and remove gasket.

  • Remove wires from light, see “Light Removal”
  • Remove four screws on Front Bulkhead.
  • Remove belt from Idler Pulley.
  • Grasp the Drum with one hand and the belt with the other. Lift the Drum and slide out the front. Carefully spread the cabinet as needed to gain additional clearance.
  • Rear Rollers and Glides can be serviced as needed.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Hi, what you describe indeed sounds very bad, and should be looked into asap, to do this yourself you will need a service and repair manual, accordingly i have provided a link above for you to obtain one.
You will need to be very careful, as with any electrical fault, the service manual has troubleshooting steps for you to follow so you can isolate and repair your problem.
Buzzing noises usually have to do with the motor, or gears belt etc.

Grinding noise in Maytag dryer

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication. If you have a front loading machine, Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer. Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor. Now is a good time to check the belt condition for wear. Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt. Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem. I will include these two websites for parts and further help: http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7. Good Luck, I hope this helps Please rate me, Thank You

Grinding noise

In my humble opinion, a dryer making a grinding noise is worth repairing. Possible Problems:

Worn Drum Rollers (Very Likely): More of a thumping / grinding sound. Replacing drum roller supports is considered to be a routine "normal ware & tear" repair with parts costing about $15 - $20 or so. Its' kinda like a tune-up for a vehicle. The rollers can be located in a couple places, but are typically located on the inside rear of the drum; upon dis-assembling the dryer.

Broken/Loose Blower Fan Wheel (Likely): The blower wheel can become loose or brake off the motor shaft and can make a "rumbling / grinding sound and can run about $15 - $25 for the part. The degree is difficulty when repairing a little high, but is commonly performed.

* Note: Removing and threading the blower wheel is reverse to prevent the fan blower from natually spinning/coming-off "Righty loosey, lefty tighty"

Dryer makes a very loud noise when turning - sounds like something is grinding. Happens on both directions of the spin. Could this be faulty or worn bearings? It is a condenser dryer, 4 yrs old

The drum support roller for your dryer (s) is worn out. In Rozzi's case is sounds like the rubber has come completely off and the drum is turning on the bare metal part of the wheel. In guest's case is sounds like one of the rollers has a chunk missing from the rubber that normally surrounds the metal wheel.

Unplug the dryer. Pull the top off the dryer. Typically a couple of screws in the back and then slide the whole top towards the front of the dryer. Lifting from the front edge open it up like a chest. Remove the drum and the belt. You should see two drum support rollers. Replace them both (and the belt while you are in there).
