Hi this is re "Guest" comment on dec 22nd about the progressive scan and now not being able to access the setup menu because the screen is just black (right?) and there is only sound. I had the same problem with a dvd recorder in the UK (Which I believe is just the identical unit, only under another name (Protron in this case) The solution is to look in the user manual, and there is a "Flowchart" so to speak, which shows paths to different functions. When you find the path, you will have to try and make the changes as though you are doing it in the dark, since nothing will appear on the screen, but when you nail it, you picture WILL suddenly appear. I know this because it happened to me, BUT I've just done it again! So much for learning from your mistakes! When i get mine sorted out, I will re post the actual details.

Ok I've just found out how to get the interlaced/progressive problem sorted out. It is as follows and PLEASE REMEMBER you will be doing this "Blind" sice the screen is black:

1. Power on the DVD unit.
2..Press the "SET UP" button on the remote, ONCE (DVD Display should show "Setup" )
3. Using the arrow buttons on the remote, push the RIGHT arrow ">" ONCE
4..Press the "DOWN" Arrow on the remote ONCE
5. Press the "ENTER" button on the remote ONCE
6. Press the "DOWN" Arrow on the remote ONCE
7. Press the "ENTER" Button on the remote ONCE
At this point you should have your picture and menu displayed on the screen, simply hit setup again to exit, and get the hell out of there!

If you want a copy of what you should be looking for, e mailed, I can do that.
Finally, to do a system restore, which will achive the same results (but you'll have to reset date, time etc.), follow steps 1 & 2 Then instead of hitting the DOWN arrow once, press it THREE times and hit "ENTER" this will restore the unit to factory settings. I have never done this so I am only guesing what other settings you will have to adjust, as well as time and date.

I also have the details on how to make the unit region free, email me and I'll send them to you.
Good Luck!

Just figured it out. If you hold on to the enter button continuously, it will allow you to go beyond the progressive scan selection to the master reset selection at the bottom.

How do i select finalise on sharp dv-rw 250h remote control

If you are using the original remote or one which matches all of the functions, make sure that no DVD or VHS tape is being played and that the recorder is on. Make sure that there is sufficient space left on the disc. (The space needed depends on chapter/disc titles.) Then press Setup on the remote; it should be below the arrow keys but the position may vary. Use the Up/Down arrows to select System Setup and press Enter. Select Disc Setup and press Enter. Select Finalise and press Enter. Select Start with the Right/Left arrows and press Enter. Wait for the procedure to finish.

Note: only discs recorded on this particular device can be finalized on the DV-RW250H. On some other Sharp DVD recorders, the Disc Menu is accessed directly from the Setup menu.

I hope this helps.

Does somebody know how to make the LG RCT689H region free. It's a dvd Rewrittable, does someboady has expierience.

Access the DVD setup menu by turning on the unit without a DVD in the drive.

Press simultaneously the "arrow down" button on the right side of the DVD recorder and the "clear" button on the remote control simultaneously for about six seconds to access the options menu.

Use sideways arrow keys on remote control to navigate to OP6. Set value of option to "8F" (for region free) and press "enter" on remote control to save changes.

When message saying "save ok" appears press "menu/list" on remote control to exit options menu. The unit will reboot and is now able to play any DVD.

I cannot play burned dvd's from this system in other dvd players becahse I cannot finalize the dvd. How do I finalize?

The recording may have used all the media on the disk because you let it run until it was full.
Now, there is no room to finalize the disk.

Play this back on the machine where it was recorded while recording it to another DVD recorder..
This time, BE THERE to stop the recording.
Set the recorder to a speed that leaves at least 10 minutes extra space for finalization.

Records ok but after resetting, I don't have audio

My manual says that the MASTER passwordis 1369. You might try resetting the password using this in the current box. I have read of others having trouble with the audio. check and see if other settings got changed. pg 25 of manual says have disc in unit, access the setup menu and try the user default. Also supposed to be a help section in the setup menu. Hope this helps.

How to finalize

i have spent 2 months looking for this answer myself... and at last success! i downloaded the user manual from funai(they made this model) available here: on page 38 it instructs you to press setup on your remote, from the drop down menu you need to select disc edit and then select finalize. this aggravated me at first because nothing happens when i hit the setup button, i powered off the unit and hit setup before the disc loaded. this step is not mentioned but is necesary. you cannot finalize a disc after it has loaded to the title menu.
