Question about HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer

Open Question

There is a line that goes up and down the right

HP2600N after three years and a lot of use this workhorse now prints a line that goes up and down the right side, causes a crease and a smudge. Time for a replacement drum or just a new printer?

Paper comes out creased on one side

If the printed image is smudged, as well as creased, you might have a torn Fuser fixing film.
You will need a technician to fix that.
If it is just a crease, just check that
1. Your paper is not damp. Try a fresh packet of paper
2. The paper input tray guides are set to the width of the apaer, to prevent the paper skewing as it feeds.

Good luck.

My four year old (not heavily used) HP Laserjet has developed a fault in that on each piece of printed paper I am getting 5 indents on the left hand side of the paper and on the right hand side the paper...

yep, know exactly what it is, your machine needs a new fuser unit, non simply change, requires the machine to be totally pulled appart to get the fuser out, these I normally quote 2Hrs labour to do, and thats after you have done them a few times, the fuser itself will have the coating falling off the ends, causing your creasing and smudging...

There are only two things it can be pretty good chance like 90% its the fuser, but just check it aint the cartridge, try with another one, or look behind the drum sheild on its base and inspect drum for damage...

This I doubt, the fuser has a mark/scratch on it, and the coating is torn..possible outside chance that its drum but that dont cause creasing, only fuser does, maybe you have both problems

If you take a look at the fuser with a torch, thats the hot bit where paper comes out.... you will see the upper pressure rollers coating is worn and tearing, Fuser wear out on all laser printers cost of fuser itself would be approx Aus$250, no simple fix for you I'm sorry....these were a good unit but I wouldn't fix it, I find that normally this is a sign that time has come for this unit, fix this and in 6months you'll be fixin something else on it, I know, it doesn't get used much, but 2 or 3 years in office equipment these days is good, four is exceptional, welcome to our modern world design to break....

hope this helps

cheers

Can't define custom paper size on HP2600n after Vista upgrade

Went to HP support web site and found the following info. The HP drivers link will take to their download site If you haven't installed the Vista Print drivers yet.

Our church bought new computers with Vista Busines two years ago and after struggling with it for 6 months went back XP Pro. This was before any Vista service packs had been released so I'm not sure if these issues have improved. We are in no hurry to upgrade to Vista. Some articles I've read about 6 months ago recommended waiting for windows 7. I haven't followed how the release of windows 7 is going. Vista is a VERY DIFFERENT ANIMAL and can be frustrating. Been there and I feel your pain.

Vertical dark/smudged line on right side of paper when printing

See its a very common issue.the right side of the drum has moisture on it.remove the toner and drum and apply a hot air blower on it for some time also clean the printer internally.reinsert the toner and drum.
check by printing few pages the smudging on the right should go within 10 to 12 pages.
if the smudging doesnot go away then its time to replace the drum to solve the issue.

This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.
