Question about GE Nautilus 24" Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

When I open the dishwasher, I can see gunk on either side of the door. When the door is shut, these areas are covered up so of course they remain gunky. What is causing this? How do I get rid of it, clean it out? The only access to it is when the door is open.

This is semi normal, worse if people insist on putting food laden dishes in the dishwasher....

Think about how food gets off ...... spraying water, and most particulate matter eventually falls to the pump area, but some makes its way to the door seal area.

This is not a fault, just clean it up and you should be good to go.

Lights come on and it beeps when u select cycle but it wont run

Do you hear the water going in? If not, the float switch is probably stuck . From the inside you can see the cover usually on the front left corner on the floor of the dishwasher by the bottom rack. Remove the screw and float cover. The you see a small piece sticking up, gently push on it many time to try to free and clean it. This is actually pushing the float switch. Clean the plastic covers of soap gunk. Reassemble and try. The switch can be accessed from underneath if you want to replace it. Also a clogged or defective water valve will not allow water to enter.

Hello, I have a portable Moffat dishwasher Model: MRC3210SW159, Serial: AR608530A. We are getting small food bits stuck all over the dishes. Not sure what to take apart or do? Could you please give us some...

Your sprayer arms may be clogged.
The upper arm attaches to a tube in the back of the dishwasher. If the support clamps come loose, the upper spray tube will not be flush with the tube and can't carry water to the sprayer arms. Also the sprayer arms can become clogged with paper remnants, bone fragments, or pieces of peeling. You'll need to remove the sprayer arm and flush it at your sink. If there is a jet that is clogged, tweezers will help remove the residue.
Finally, the bottom of the door INSIDE the washer often get covered with gunk. Be sure and gently wash the bottom of the door INSIDE. You can open the door, spray some window cleaner on the bottom and then gently brush away the 'gunk.' Rinse with hot water from a pitcher or your sink sprayer and this can eliminate some of the residue that is showing on your dishes.

And of course, when you're loading the dishwasher, be sure none of the items are resting ON each other. This will prevent the water from circulating and cleaning.
I hope this helps. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my answer

Whirlpool dishwasher leaks

Just about all dishwashers will leak a little around the door seal over time but should not leak to the point of wetting the floor. With the door open, check in the front of the tub, under the door. Lots of gunk? Clean this area out well plus take a soft damp rag and clean the door gasket while feeling for any damage. Then go along the mating surface of the door and look for any nicks. If it leaked all the time I would suspect the door hinges have been sprung. Hope this helps, Ken

Opened door on cycle, will not continue cycle after closing door

The most common problem for a dishwasher to not restart after the door being closed is a failed door latch interlock switch. Adjusting / repairing it is not too difficult.

Of course this assumes that the Dishwasher power circuit from the circuit breaker remains powered up.

Post back here if you are looking for more details.

Good Luck!

There is gunk in the bottom of my dishwasher by the drain. Really sticky gunk. How do I get it out?

Depending on what that 'gunk' is, will determine your best course of action. If it is food byproducts from the wash process and you've not cleaned out the filter, you should remove as much of that gunk with a dishtowel and warm water, then use white vinegar to break down any other leftover material. Rinse with clean warm water. Check the filter and clean it after each wash process to make sure you aren't restricting drain water from being pumped out. Once you've removed th emajority of that material, you could run a dishless wash cycle on the sanitary setting to clean out anything that remained... Hope this helps...

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.

Water Leak at vent area in door...

On this model the vent is open and shut by a wax motor. The vent should be closed tight during the entire wash cycle and the first 6 minutes of the drying cycle. Check the operation, make sure there is not a bunch of gunk restricting it. If you are handy with a meter check the resistance of the motor. It should read approx. 2100ohms. Another reason for leaking at the base is oversudzing. Also check the upper spray arm for cracks or splits shooting water into the vent area. Catriver...post back.
