Sony KP-65wv600 problem

Turn tv on, you get a green screen which turns bright white for about 5 seconds, then turns black. Has good sound but no pic. Sony authorized TV repairman says all three CRT tubes are shot and it will cost $900 to get them fixed.

He temporarily got the icture working by taking the fron cover off and tapping three areas a bit and bam - pic comes on. Says it might last a week a day two weeks etc., but not long. I have until after christmas before I have him back to do the job, cannot afford to pay $900 at Christmastime! Please help!!!

Re: Sony KP-65wv600 problem

I hope this is whats happening with your set if it is and it sounds like it keep after sony!

Sony received reports of flickering on select rear projection TV models and immediately started an investigation. Sony's engineering team found that in a small percentage of sets (less than 1%) made with impregnated cathode CRTs, the material used to impregnate the cathode may attach itself to another section of the electron gun and cause a mild brightness fluctuation or change in hue.

Once this problem was diagnosed, Sony published a Service Fix for this issue and authorized Sony Service Centers and Authorized Service Centers to make modifications and replace all 3 CRTs in affected units at no cost to the consumer in order to resolve the issue. In addition, a change to the manufacturing line was made to ensure that current units do not experiencethis problem.

If a consumer is experiencing this symptom, contact Sony Call Center (800-222-SONY) to schedule a service call. Sony has extended the warranty on these models for this issue and is working with authorized service centers, providing all current information for the repair as well as assisting them in ordering the parts beforehand, so the repair can be
completed in one call.

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

KP-65WV600 Red and Green Lamps fade out after about 15 seconds

Hi, if the tubes fade from full brilliance to black over a few seconds, the possible sounds like dry joints in the CRT heater circuits. possibly caused by dry joints (bad solder joints). Most repairs involving rear projection TV's can be a pig (mainly relating to access to work on the circuit boards)
